John Robert Vette

John Robert (J.R.) Vette, 78 of Oshkosh, Wisconsin died Thursday October 10, 2013 at his home in Oshkosh. He was born in Evanston, Illinois, on September 4, 1935 the son of the late John Edward and Marjorie Nicholson Vette. John attended Evanston High School and graduated in 1957 from Colorado State University with a Bachelors Degree and as a member of the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC). He joined the United States Air Force in 1958 where he became a pilot and flew B-47 aircraft with the Strategic Air Command (SAC). He met his wife Suzanne Carter in Tampa, Florida while stationed at MacDill Air Force Base. John and Suzanne were married June 16, 1962 in Davenport, Florida. In 1963 John was honorably discharged from the Air Force and moved to Oshkosh, Wisconsin, to join the family business, SNC Manufacturing Company. During his time in Oshkosh, John was a member of the Fox Valley Aero Club, the Oshkosh Country Club, the Oshkosh Yacht Club, the Experimental Aircraft Association, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, the Oshkosh Lakeshore Lions Club and the Paine Art Center. John also proudly and actively served on a number of Boards including: SNC Manufacturing, Bureau of Family Services, the Oshkosh Public Museum, Fox Valley Aero Club and Boy & Girls Club of Oshkosh. After 37 years with SNC Manufacturing Company, John retired in 2000 as Executive Vice President.He is survived by his wife Suzanne Carter Vette, his daughter, Jane (Jean-Pierre Ghazal) Vette, his son Brad (Laura) Vette, his sister, Barbara Vette Ryan and her children Jeffrey Ryan, Debbie (Bill) Tellman, Marcy (Josh) Ryan-Nichol and Linda (Tim Loughlin) Ryan. In addition he is survived by, his brothers-in-law, Douglas (Deborah) Carter and Charles (Sherry) Carter, his best friend William H. Bardens. Also, he is remembered by his close cousins, John (Susan) L. Vette III and daughters Susanne (Phillip) VetteMoseley, Lucinda Vette and Jonelle Vette; Burleigh (Gary) Blust and their children Barbara (Curt) Riskey and David (Ellen) Blust. John is also survived by several other nieces, nephews and many friends.John was a loving and devoted husband and father and a doting grandfather to his beloved granddaughters. He was patriotic, civic-minded and passionate about community service, especially to the Boy & Girls Club of Oshkosh and the Tri-County Boys & Girls Club in Berlin. He was never happier than when he was spending time with his family, flying or visiting Crystal Lake Michigan.The family will receive relatives and friends at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home located at 100 Lake Pointe Drive (corner of Witzel Ave and Lake Point Dr.) from 4:00-7:00PM on Monday, October 21st and from 10:00AM until the memorial service at 11:00 at the First Presbyterian Church, 110 Church Street on Tuesday, October 22nd.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Boy & Girls Club of Oshkosh (Unmet Needs Endowment) or the Tri-County Boys & Girls Club. All contributions will be administered through the Boys & Girls Club of Oshkosh, 501 East Parkway, Oshkosh, WI, 54901.The family would like to thank Dr. Curt Radford, Dr. Mamoun Al-Nouri, Dr. Issam Albitar, Dr. Timothy Goggins, Dr. Zenoun Abouzelam and Affinity Visiting Nurses Hospice Services for the excellent and compassionate care given to John.
