Joshua T. Wege, age 39, of Pickett, passed away on Tuesday April 4, 2023 at Ascension Mercy Hospital in Oshkosh. He was born on September 17, 1983 in Clintonville a son of Marlin and Jennifer Thomas Wege.
Josh was an avid outdoorsman who spent every spare moment in the woods or on the water doing the things he loved the most, hunting and fishing. He was skilled and successful at both and shared the fruits of his efforts with family and friends. Famous for his fish fries, it was a special treat to partake in the delicious fresh fish he had caught and prepared. As a lifelong member of the Van Dyne Sportsman’s Club, Josh was an avid trap shooter and at the age of 15 he won the State Junior Championship for trap shooting with a perfect score. He was fortunate to have had many opportunities to use his shooting abilities on hunting trips all over the country. Last December he was able to fulfill his dream of going to Alaska, and with the help of his friends he brought home a Harlequin duck that will be proudly displayed at his parents’ home. When he wasn’t in the woods or on the water, Josh worked for Werner Home Improvement. He began his construction career in high school, roofing houses during his summer break. He was fortunate to have had a boss willing to take on, and train a squirrelly teenager. Eventually he became a partner. Over the years Josh freely shared his construction skills, and most everyone he loved benefited from them in some way. With the coming of Spring Josh looked forward to fishing season and Brewers baseball. He thoroughly enjoyed the few games he was able to attend at American Family Field. Besides his family and friends Josh loved his home and property where assorted wildlife, including deer and turkeys, are frequent visitors, and the occasional turtle attempts to nest.
He is survived by his parents Marlin and Jenni Wege, two brothers, Zach(Natasha) Wege, Ethan(partner James) Wege, maternal grandmother Doris Thomas, paternal grandmother Margaret Wege, and numerous Aunts, Uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather David Thomas, and paternal grandfather Donald Wege.
A memorial service for Josh will be held on Sunday April 16, 2023 at 3 p.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held at church on Sunday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. The family is requesting casual attire especially camouflage in honor of Josh and his love of hunting.
A memorial has been established.
The Wege family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and medical professionals at the Michael D. Wachtel Cancer Center, the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, UW-Madison Hospital, and Ascension Mercy Hospital and clinics, and all of Josh’s friends for their love and support during his long battle with cancer.
