Joyce J. Thurwatcher age 83 of Oshkosh died on June 18, 2014 at Aurora Medical Center. She was born December 29, 1930 in Oshkosh to George and Edna (Zarling) Golz. Her father was a City of Oshkosh Fireman. She met her husband Don in South Park School. He didnt want anyone else to have me so we married early and have been together for 65 years. They were married August 24, 1948. Someone just asked her if they were still talking and she said, No, Im shouting! I think hes getting hard of hearing!Joyce was a seamstress and made many of her own clothes. She made many long gowns which were worn at the numerous organizations she belonged to. For many years she made sea shell jewelry which was delicate and beautiful. She also knit items for the family. She painted figurines and loved cake decorating. She kept in practice on birthdays. She even made her granddaughters wedding cake. She loved to cook, bake and have the family over. She loved cactus. In a raised flower bed across the front of their house she spelled their last name in hens and chicks. You could see it from the highway as you passed their house.Joyce worked at Wisconsin National Life Insurance Company for seven years in the Actuarial Department. She then went on to work at Mercy Medical Center in the Business Office for 25 years. While working there she became a party planner. She was an interesting and amusing entertainer. No party was too big or too small. Some of her titles were Dr. Mal Practice, Dr. Ruth, and Dr. Joyce Rivers to name a few. Her favorite title though was GG (great grandma) which started 17 years ago with the birth of her great granddaughter Veronica (Nica).Joyce was a member of The White Shrine of Jerusalem and had been the Worthy High Priestess four times. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary #267 and served as their Madam President three times. In 2007-2008 she was honored as being the Wisconsin State Auxiliary Mother. Joyce was also a member of the 25 Year Club from Mercy, the Retirees Club from Mercy and Noble Ladies.Joyce is a member of St. John Church in Nekimi.Joyce was happiest when surrounded by her family. She is survived by her loving husband, Don; sons, Jeffrey (Linda) Thurwatcher, Bruce (Diana) Thurwatcher; grandchildren, Scott Thurwatcher and Heather (Craig) Peerenboom; great grandchildren, Veronica Nica, Haily and Donovin Peerenboom; and other cousins, nieces and nephews. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Sheri Joy; great grandson, Vincent James Scott Peerenboom; brother, Charles (Gladys) Golz; 3 sisters, Lorraine (Elmer) Borgman, Lucille (Charles) Holst and Amber (Alvin) Samuel; and her mother and father-in-law Leona and Leon Thurwatcher.Memorial Service for Joyce will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in the Town of Nekimi on Oregon St. Road. Visitation will start at 1:00 p.m. There will be an Eagle Auxiliary Service at 1:30 p.m. and a Memorial Service starting at 2:00. Lunch will follow in the church hall.
