Judith Ann Lett, known to her friends and family as Mother, Judy, Mom, Grandma, GG, and to one special grandson, “My Love,” passed away with her family by her side on February 6, 2018, after a very brief illness. Judy was born on May 16, 1939 to Henry (Hank) and Dorothy (Werner) Paffenroth. She graduated from Oshkosh High School and went on to complete cosmetology school, earning a state cosmetology license. Judy married her high school sweetheart, James Lett, in February of 1960 and together they had two children.
She was a homemaker, preferring to stay at home and raise her children in the early years of their lives. When Judy decided to enter the work force, she began in the Oshkosh school system as a librarian, very soon working her way into the classroom as a paraprofessional. Judy loved working with children. She learned to interpret and use sign language with her hearing impaired students. Judy was very proud of the work she and the staff did in the Bright Beginnings program. She loved decorating the halls, classrooms, and any empty bulletin board to make her school bright, cheerful, and a happy place to learn. Judy earned paraprofessional of the year in 1996. In 2004, she retired from a job she absolutely loved for 29 years.
Upon retirement, Judy and Jim began traveling, meeting new people, and making many close friends. They spent winters in Texas and Arizona before settling in Florida. Judy couldn’t wait to return to Florida each fall. She had a countdown each spring, looking forward to seeing her “Florida family” and friends. Judy had a special place in her heart for anything Disney, making sure her entire family was able to enjoy it with her.
Judy is survived by her husband, James; daughter, Tanya (Richard) Meidam; son, Darren (Kathy) Lett; grandchildren, Leanne, Renee, and Calvin; great-grandchildren, Madilyn and Mia; brother, Robert (Beverly) Paffenroth; brother-in-law, Daniel (Malou) Lett; sister-in-law, Lauri Murdock; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; mother and father- in- law, Fred and Lona Lett; and brother in law, Thomas (Beverly).
Per Judy’s wishes, a private service will be held on Friday, February 16, with burial at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Fragile X Foundation, 1861 International Dr, Suite 200, McLean, VA 22102.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the wonderful staff at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Dr. Kelley Parnell, Dr. Mossadiq Jaffri, Dr. Robert W. Jones and Sara Calmes.
