Judith “Judy” Kay Verhulst, 77, passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2021. Judy was born on March 20, 1943 in Sheboygan, WI to the late Robert and Frieda (nee Markgraf) Paske. She received her bachelor’s degree in social work from The University of Wisconsin – Madison. For several years, she worked as a social worker in Colorado. In 1965 Judy married Lee Verhulst and together they had two children. They settled in Oshkosh where Judy made many great friends.
As her children grew up, she was involved with volunteering in their activities of Boy Scouts and Campfire Girls. After her children grew up, she got her real estate license, and went to work for Schwab Realty in Oshkosh. Some years later, she began her career with Winnebago County Social Services. She began in economic support, followed by working with the younger adult team, and lastly the older adult team. After retirement she volunteered at Mercy Oakwood. She enjoyed going to the casino with friends, Old Fashions, and luncheon dates. Her close friends and family affectionately called her “Jude”, as well as Judy. She had a sassy wit and an infectious laugh, and whenever someone needed help, she was always right there with caring empathy and understanding.
Judy is survived by her daughter, Lisa (Walker) Lowe; sister Pat (Al) Barkhau; nieces Jenie (Brian) Howlin Clapp, Sara (Eric) Howlin Mamula, Allison (Matt) Howlin Powers; nephews Jon (Dolores) Barkhau, Jeff (Diana) Howlin, and Bob (Beth) Barkhau who was also Judy’s godson; and one “grand dog”, Harley. She is also survived by many close friends.
Along with her parents, Judy was preceded in death by her son, Andy Verhulst and sister, Sande Howlin.
Judy’s family and friends are eternally grateful to Parkview Health Center, and especially the staff on Prairieside II for their excellent care of Judy. You made a huge difference in Judy’s time spent at Parkview. Thank you.
