Judith M. Martin of Madison, Wisconsin passed on Wednesday, November 30, 2016. Judy was born in Oshkosh March 1, 1951, in Oshkosh, WI to Clair and Helen (Sendele) Martin.She attended St. Mary School, graduated from Lourdes High School and received a BS degree in Medical Technology from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.Early in her career, Judy served as Blood Bank Supervisor at St. Joseph Hospital (Wheaton-St. Joseph) in Milwaukee, WI. Her interests in blood banking and transfusion medicine motivated her to complete the specialist in blood banking program at the Blood Center of Wisconsin and pursue graduate courses at Marquette University, Milwaukee, WI.Judy moved to Madison to begin work at the American Red Cross as the assistant supervisor of the Immunohematology Reference Laboratory. In 1988 she was promoted to Manager and retired from the American Red Cross in 2013 after 32 years of dedicated service.Judy was an active member of the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) and the Wisconsin Association of Blood Banks (WABB). She held positions within WABB including President, Secretary, and Education Committee Chairperson.Judy enjoyed her pets, reading, gardening, traveling, supporting community organizations and performing acts of kindness and friendship. Judy lived by the Golden Rule. She always had a smile, and kind, thoughtful and encouraging words for others. As one of her physicians said, She could always light up the room.She attended St. Maria Goretti and Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Churches in Madison.Judy was preceded in death by her parents, aunts, uncles and cousins. She is survived by her sisters, Dr. Kristine Martin (Hobart, WI) and Patricia Martin (Verona, WI), her aunt, Grace Schettl, cousins and friends.A visitation for family and friends will be on Wednesday, December 14, 2016, at the Konrad- Behlman Funeral Home, 402 Waugoo Avenue, Oshkosh, WI from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held at the funeral home led by Sister Judy Miller, from the Norbertine Center for Spirituality, DePere, WI.Burial will be at Riverside Catholic Cemetery.Judys family would like to thank Drs. Nataliya Uboha and Victoria Cheung, the staffs at the Carbone Cancer Center UW-Hospital and Clinics and Agrace Hospice, and Rev. Monsignor James Uppena, Our Lady Queen of Peace, Madison, WI.In lieu of flowers a donation may be given in Judys name to the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund, Carbone Cancer Center, University of Wisconsin-Madison, 600 Highland Avenue, K4/658, Madison, WI 53792.
