Kathleen Evonne (Meixl) Powers, age 85, passed on to new life in Christ on Friday, January 15, 2010. Born September 13, 1924 to Benedict and Caroline "Jean" Meixl, Kath was the oldest of four children. Growing up in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, she watched over her younger brother Ben, and sisters Betty Jane and Sheryl Ann as though they were her own children. Kath married Carl "Gunner" Powers on May 29, 1948 and together they enjoyed family and friends while raising four children of their own in Oshkosh.Kath was employed at "The Axle" (Rockwell International) for many years, where she worked in the tool crib and was known as "Blondie" - a favorite of many. She had the ability to accept life's challenges and still find humor in everyday life, bringing a smile to many a face. Spending hours in the kitchen, she joyfully made many home cooked meals for those she cared about. Kath had a heart of gold and was fiercely loyal to those she loved - always taking care of others. She enjoyed the love and friendship of a close family, keeping in close touch with her cousins and sisters even as adult life drew them in different directions. Kathleen was preceded in death by her husband Carl, her parents, Ben and Jean, and her brother Ben. Mourning her loss are her sons Michael (Lisa Dawson), Ronald (Tina), and Gregory (Becky), and her daughter Karene Robinson, of Oshkosh; and her grandchildren (the light of her life): Mike's children Tony Cartwright of Winneconne, Kevin (Ann) Powers of Texas, Christie (Mike) Lehman and Jessica Powers of Oshkosh, Ron's children Kelli (Mike) Sohn, Jammy (Erica) Powers, Christopher, Nicholas, Timothy and Anna Powers, all of Omro, Greg's children Kara (Alex) Walsh of Neenah, and Kayla Powers of Oshkosh and Karene's children Jasen Probst (Jennifer Kohler), Jasmine Probst, and Carlten Probst, all of Oshkosh. In addition, Kath was blessed with ten great-grandchildren, and two great-great- grandchildren. Kathleen will also be sadly missed by her sisters Betty Jane (George 'Dave') Davis of Alexandria, Virginia and Sheryl Ann (Lyle) Schroeder of Madison, Wisconsin, as well as her cousins, nieces and nephews and many friends.A celebration of Kathleen's life will be held on Thursday, January 21, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Most Blessed Sacrament- St. Peter's Site in Oshkosh with Father Jim Jugenheimer officiating. Family and friends will be received at a visitation held from 11:00 a.m. to the time of service at church on Thursday, January 21.
