Kenneth H. Ken Moenning, 74, of Oshkosh, died peacefully on October 15, 2006 at Evergreen Retirement Community. He was born on December 28, 1931 the son of Harry and Elvira (Jankow) Moenning in Sheboygan, WI. He graduated from Sheboygan Falls High School and Sheboygan County Junior Teaching College. Ken stated teaching in rural schools in the area and then spent four years in the U.S. Navy. On August 14, 1954 he married Caroline Ochs at St. Johns U.C.C. in the Schwartwald in the Town of Herman, WI.Ken was a prominent educator in Oshkosh for thirty years, teaching at the Merrill Junior High, Lincoln and Read Schools. He then became the principal at Smith, Franklin, and Green Meadow Schools. He later received a Bachelors Degree from the Oshkosh State Teachers College and a Masters of Science Degree in administration and supervision from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Ken finished his career as the Director of Elementary Education of Oshkosh and retired in 1987.In addition to his outstanding career in education, he and Caroline opened their home over the years to family and foreign exchange students. Ken was also active in the community serving on many non-profit boards of directors, as well as being a member of the Elks Lodge #292, the Oshkosh Rotary, and Educational Support Group. In 1957 he borrowed a Santa suit and visited family and neighborhood children. Over the years he had his own suit made and Caroline joined in with him as Mrs. Claus. The list of children he visited grew over the years even into the second generations. Ken and Caroline enjoyed traveling to many places throughout their lives. Ken also enjoyed boating, woodworking, and gardening.Ken was preceded in death by his wife, Caroline; his parents; a brother, Edward Moenning; a sister/in/law, Ethel (Klokow) Moenning; and a brother/in/law, Donald Schroeder. He is survived by two sisters/in/law, Rose Marie Seipel and Laverne Schroeder, and brother/in/law, Ken Seipel. He is also survived by ten nieces and nephews, Susan (Moenning) Calhoun; Brian Moenning; Tina (Moenning) Lorenz; Kurt Schroeder; Kris (Schroeder) Markwardt, Paul Schroeder; Ann Marie Schroeder; Cindy (Seipel) Tunnell; Scott Seipel; and Julie (Seipel) Edwards.A memorial service for Ken will be held on Tuesday October 17, 2006 at 6:30 PM at the First Congregational Church at 137 Algoma Blvd in Oshkosh with the Rev. DiBiasio-Snyder officiating. Family and friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 5:00 PM until the time of the service. The family would like to thank the staff at the Evergreen Retirement Community and the Aurora Visiting Nurses for all of their support and kindness.
