LaVera Worthey Noe died early Tuesday morning, June 9, fifteen years after suffering a devastating fall that left her paralyzed. She was born November 19, 1920 in South Muddy Township, Jasper County, Illinois, daughter of Floyd Worthey and Martha Whightsel Worthey. After her mother died in 1926, LaVera lived with her paternal grandparents, Charles and Louie (Kincade) Worthey. Following graduation from Newton High School, she completed the secretarial course at Lockyear Business College in Evansville, Indiana. She moved to Washington, DC to work for the U.S. Treasury Department before finally being transferred to Chicago, Illinois, where she met Edward Jerome Noe, a Naval cadet. They were married on September 2, 1944 in Jacksonville, Florida. After the war, the Noes settled in LaCrosse, Wisconsin where LaVera was employed as the secretary to the union for Electric Autolite Company. Following the birth of her daughter Joann Marie in 1950, LaVera became a stay-at-home mother working part-time in a variety of positions. The family lived in Madison, Wisconsin; Rochester, New York; Brockport, New York; and Richland Center, Wisconsin; before eventually settling in Villa Park, Illinois in 1969. For two decades, LaVera worked for LaGrange Area Department of Special Education which provides special education services to 17 school districts in DuPage and Cook County Illinois. Starting as a member of the clerical staff, LaVera established LADSEs Educational Materials Center and became Transportation Coordinator.After the birth of their only grandchild William in 1983, LaVera and Ed started planning their full retirement, eventually moving to Oshkosh in 1987. LaVera was a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of First Presbyterian Church, Oshkosh. She is survived by her husband Edward, her daughter Joann (John Cross) her grandson William Cross and several nieces and nephews. Her brother, Richard, preceded her. Funeral services for LaVera will be held on Saturday, June 13, 2009 at the First Presbyterian Church, 100 Church Avenue, Oshkosh at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Thomas Willadsen officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, June 12, 2009 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home - Eastside with an Eastern Star Memorial Service at 7:00 p.m. and again on Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church from 10:00 a.m. to the service time. In lieu of flowers LaVera requested that Memorials be sent to the Christine Ann Center.
