Lavern O. Ecklor

Lavern O. Vern Ecklor, 80, of Oshkosh died after a brief struggle with cancer at Park View Health Center on Friday January 21, 2011. He was born June 4, 1930 in Ludington, WI. Vern married Devona Binder on August 5, 1950 and they had just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in August. He was proud of serving in the U S Army from 1947-1949 at the rank of Sergeant. Vern worked at Georgia Pacific as a Maintenance Mechanic for 37 years. He was very proud of the house he built with his own hands, he worked endless hours and years on the home he built for his family. Vern was a natural handyman, helping anyone he could by remodeling their home or fixing anything someone would bring to him to repair - he always had great ideas. He also loved working on cars. Vern enjoyed life with his wife throughout the years, going to their cabin in Popple River, where he enjoyed hunting with his son and grandsons. He was a member of the Elks Club and enjoyed golfing and bowling in his earlier years. He is survived by his wife Devona Ecklor, daughter Wanda (Pat) Strange, son Charles Ecklor, grandchildren Jason (Amie) Strange, Paul (Neke) Ecklor, and Amy Ecklor, and great-grandchildren Hunter and Levi Strange and Jordan and Brenya Ecklor. He was preceded in death by his mother Mary Nohelty, step-father William Nohelty, and beloved black lab, Jona. A funeral service for Vern will be held Wednesday January 26, 2011 at 6:00 p.m. at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home-Westside, Rev. Jeffrey Knoll officiating. Visitation will be on Wed. at the Lake Pointe Dr. funeral home from 3 p.m. until the service. Burial will be in Lake View Memorial Park. A memorial is being established.
