LaVerne Trewyn age 81 of Oshkosh died at Evergreen on Wednesday, October 3, 2012. She was born in Shawano, WI on July 17, 1931, a daughter of the late Truman and Esther Rindt Balke. LaVerne married George Trewyn on July 28, 1950. George preceded her in death on June 11, 2005.LaVerne had been employed as a title one teachers aide after her sons were older, at Emmeline Cook, Dale and St. Vincents Schools in the Oshkosh School System, until her retirement. Following retirement, she and George moved to Lakewood, WI; and enjoyed every day up north with nature. After Georges passing and when her health declined, she moved back to Oshkosh to be with her son Ric. She was a member of AMVETs Auxiliary Post #7 in Oshkosh and past Auxiliary State President in 1965. She was involved with Special Olympics and helped out at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Townsend preparing food. Laverne enjoyed cooking food for family groups at her home with a smile on her face. She was a devoted wife and mother and grandmother.Survivors include her son Ric (Shelly) Trewyn of Oshkosh; six grandchildren, Elizabeth (Brent) Cloutier of Neenah; Jay Trewyn of DePere; Noelle (Fianc Nick Stoflet) Casiano of Auburndale; Dehlia (Terry) Klawitter, Darlene (Lee) Swenson, Tianna (Bryan) Fritz, all of Oshkosh; several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Joyce (Sean) White of Alaska; two brothers, Art (Sherry) Balke of Shawano; William (Cindy) Balke of Plymouth; four sisters, Dolores (Tom) Duffek of Green Bay; Lorraine (Andrew) Pockat of Appleton; Carol St. Louis-Herb of Shawano; Barbara (Bob) Wix of Fond du lac; special friend, Robert Bennett of Mountain and her God child Kathy (Bob) Poehlman of Oshkosh. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband George, son Randall Trewyn, daughter-in-law, Betty Trewyn and two brothers-in-law Tom St. Louis and Jim Herb.Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 8, 2012 at the Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home- Westside at 10:30 am with the Rev. Steve Mueller officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 9:00 am to the time of service. Internment will follow at Lake View Memorial Park.The Trewyn family would like to thank a special niece, Kathy Poehlman, the staff at Evergreen Retirement Community, and the staff of Patient Care Unite One at Mercy Medical Center for the compassionate care given to LaVerne.
