Lawrence Edward Hergert

Lawrence E. Hergert, 90, of Oshkosh died Monday December 12, 2011 at Bethel Home. He was born October 17, 1921 in Oshkosh a son of the late Alex and Catherine (Scheuerman) Hergert. Larry married Lorraine G. Schefelker on August 25, 1945 in Manawa, WI. She preceded him in death on August 23, 2011. Larry was a member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church and was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in the South Pacific. He enjoyed ice fishing, hunting with his brothers and nephew, and was an avid Green Bay Packer and football fan. Larry was a Boy Scout Leader and was in scouting for 35 years. He is survived by a son, Greg Hergert of Oshkosh and four grandchildren, Matthew (Jeanne) Hergert, Luke Hergert, Kerri Hergert, and Nicholas Hergert. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Catherine Otto, Marie Penzenstadler, Lee Sagmeister, and Helen Huber and three brothers, Alex Hergert Jr., John Hergert, and Melvin Hergert. A funeral service for Larry will be held Monday December 19, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church (400 N. Sawyer St.), Rev. Jeffrey Knoll officiating. Visitation will be on Monday from 10 a.m. until the service. Burial will be in Lake View Memorial Park, with military honors. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established to the Food Pantry at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church.
