Lawrence J. Mader (Mad Dog), age 77, passed away Thursday, July 13, 2023. Wisconsin Rapids. He was born in Athens, WI on November 20, 1945, to the late Joseph and Helen (Bangart) Mader. Lawrence married Paula Samida on February 27, 1979, in Oshkosh, WI.
Larry spent most of his career as an autobody repair man. He took pride in making cars look as if they had never been in an accident. Larry co-owned A 1 Autobody from 1980-1984 with longtime friend and brother in-law Pete Samida, going on to work at Wick Homes until his retirement. Larry had a love for motorcycles especially Harleys having owned a few in his life. Larry cherished watching Nascar and Packer games with his late wife Paula. Other activities he enjoyed included camping, hunting, and playing a mean air guitar.
Lawrence is survived by his daughters: Anna (Chris) Wools, Tammy Mader, Tracy (Roger) Zygarlicke, Michelle Mader sons: Michael (Anne) Mader, Danny (Whitney) Mader; grandchildren: Alak, Ciera, Sophia, Arie, Brie, Noah, Ian, Malachi, Rueben, Liam, Evelyn, Kayger, Xavier, Serenity; great grandchild Chase; sisters: Joleen (Randall) Jones, Lucy (Dennis) Berkholtz, Audrey Mader, Lois Schalow; brothers: Dale Mader, Bill (Joy) Mader and numerous nieces and nephews. He was further preceded in death by his wife, Paula Mader.
A funeral for Lawrence will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, August 5, 2023, at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home, 402 Waugoo Avenue, Oshkosh. Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 am until the time of service. Burial will take place at Lake View Memorial Park immediately following the service with full military honors.
