Leon C. Luker

October 31, 1931 — October 17, 2024

Leon C. Luker, age 92, died on October 17th, 2024 at St. Elizabeth Hospital. Leon was born October 31, 1931. He was the oldest child of the late Earl and Dorothy Luker.

He grew up in Oshkosh where he met the love of his life, Ann Marie Luker. They enjoyed 72 years of marriage together.

Leon was an outstanding athlete and enjoyed playing and watching sports his entire life, especially when his own relatives were playing. Leon attended the University of Wisconsin, Oshkosh and worked at Precour Construction Company as a yard man, superintendent, Vice President, President and eventually, the owner. A few local buildings constructed under his supervision include the Jacob Shapiro School, the Ceape Ave Fire Station, the Oshkosh Chamber of Commerce building, dormitories at the University of Wisconsin and Ripon College, libraries, a retirement center at Ripon College, and an addition to the Waupun prison.

After retiring from the construction business, Leon farmed in the Town of Black Wolf where he enjoyed farming with some of his children. During this time his family enjoyed many hayrides, weddings, four-wheel rides, horseback rides, snowmobile rides, swimming, tennis, basketball, football and baseball games.

Leon served on several boards throughout his life, including the Black Wolf Township, New Elm Cemetery Board, his church board, as a volunteer coach, and the zoning board. He was a faithful and dedicated member of St. Peter Catholic Church, now Most Blessed Sacrament.

Leon had a good life, a wonderful wife whom he loved dearly, a family he loved, and he felt truly blessed. He was a beloved husband, a cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather, father-in-law, uncle, brother, builder, and blueprint maker. He will be remembered as a kind, hardworking, loyal, loving, intelligent, handsome, and humble gentleman. He enjoyed working and planning projects with his family. He was known for saying, "this is the best meal I ever had." He often said, "I've lived a great life, what more could I ask for?" We were blessed to have him in our lives.

Surviving are his children who loved him dearly: James (Candy Ryan) Luker of Chisago Lake, MN; Susan (Jeffrey) Thoe of Hayfield, MN; Mary (Bob) Tamblin of Princeton, WI; Richard (Julie) Luker of Appleton, WI; Michael (Melinda) Luker of Rochester, MN; Ann Marie (Todd) Burns of Oshkosh, WI; Christine (special friend Chad Dallman) Krause of Oshkosh, WI; and daughter-in-law, Jane Luker of Oshkosh, WI.

He will be deeply missed by his grandchildren whom he was so proud of: Meghan (Craig) Goyke, Samantha (Justin) Kuenzi, Mallery (Nate) Hammond, Merrill (Phil) Norman, Mesa Luker, Mark Luker, Bonnie (TJ) Thoe-Austin, Amanda (Drew) Imes, McCayla (Jordan) Groski, Katrina (Addy) Thoe, Jared Luker, Cameron (Payton) Luker, Elliott (Katie) Luker, Garritt (Kailee) Luker, Logan Luker, Gabrielle (Kurt) Jacobs, Hope Burns, and Teal (Luke) Ebels.

He was cherished and adored by his great-grandchildren: Lane and Owen Austin; Vayda and Lukas Hammond; Oslo and Eowyn Imes; Sunny and Scout Norman; Hadley Jacobs; and Rhett Luker.

He embraced his wonderful step-grandchildren: Josh and Jeremy Foley, Robert (Miranda) Egan, Nicholas Egan, Jody Navis, Shawn Tamblin, as well as his step-great-grandchildren: Jak, Gus, Ruth, Jensen (Devin ) Zimmerman, Brady, Eliza, and Kendra; and his step great great grandchild, Otto Zimmerman

He is survived by his sister, Shirley Peters of Oshkosh; his brother, Tom Luker (Margaret) of Butte des Morts; sister-in-law, Betty Klieforth of Golden, CO;  and his brother-in-law, Ralph G. Klieforth of Pleasantville, NY.

Preceding him in death were his beloved wife, Ann Marie Luker; two sons Larry Luker and Leon A. Luker; a son-in-law, Mark Mattson; and former daughter in-law, Jordis Luker. Also preceding him in death were his brothers-in-law, Clint Luker and John Klieforth, and his sisters-in-law, Helen Shenefield and Mary Wrasse.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at Most Blessed Sacrament Parish, St. Peter, 435 High Avenue, Wednesday October 30th at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour before the service. A private interment will be held after the funeral. The service will be live streamed.
