Leonard John Wegner

December 20, 1925 — September 18, 2005

Leonard J. Wegner, 79, of Oshkosh, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, September 18, 2005 at his home surrounded by his family, following a brief illness. Leonard was born on his parents farm in the Town of Nekimi on December 20, 1925 to the late George and Florence (Gillen) Wegner. He married the love of his life Audrey (Phillips) Wegner in 1950. They enjoyed fifty-five wonderful years together, where they modeled a loving and enduring relationship. They raised three super great children: Gloria (Gary) Poelman of Norton Shores, MI, Sharon (Michael) Callahan of Oshkosh and Philip L. Wegner of Portland, OR. The delight of his life were his four grandchildren; Amie (Timothy) Rickert, Lisa Poelman, Emily Callahan and Timothy Callahan. He has one surviving brother, Donald Wegner, one sister, Eleanor (Roger) Wangelin and one sister-in-law, Audrey Wegner. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Wayne, one brother, Roger Wegner and one sister-in-law, Ruth Wegner.His loving family extends to nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and many friends.Leonard was a life-long member of Grace Bible Church where he served as a faithful servant on the church board as treasure for twenty-five years. He served his Country in the U.S. Army during World War II from August 1943 to June 1946. He survived many fierce battles in Germany, Brussels and France. One of those battles being fought was the battle of the Bulge. Hew as assigned with the 30th Division 119th Infantry. He attained the rank of Corporal.Leonard was employed in years past at Fahrnwald Farms Dairy, Montgomery Wards, and he retired from SNC Manufacturing Company in 1994.Leonard was a man with a terrific sense of humor, always ready with a joke, a silly story wanting to make people laugh.The family wished to acknowledge with heartfelt praise and gratitude to the special care given to Leonard by all the nurses from Theda Care Hospice. The funeral will be held at the Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home- Westside on Thursday September 22 at 6:00 PM, with Pastor Paul Turner officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4:00 PM until the time of service. Burial will be in Ellenwood Cemetery on Friday September 23, 2005 at 10:00 AM.Please join the family for a meal immediately following the service at Grace Bible Church- 549 Washington Ave. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established by the family.
