Levern John Zwirchitz Sr.

LeVern J. Zwirchitz Sr., age 90, of Oshkosh, died Friday, October 19, 2012 at Aurora Medical Center. He was born on September 16, 1922, the son of John and Francis (Wilde) Zwirchitz, in the Town of Rolling. On June 3, 1944 he married Joan Miller in New York City at the Little Church Around the Corner. Together, Vern and Joan enjoyed square dancing, traveling, and participating in many organizations in the Oshkosh area.Vern was a veteran of the United States Navy and served during World War II and the Korean War. Following the war, he worked as an electrician at Rockwell International. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, and was actively involved in many Masonic organizations, including Tyrian Chapter #15 Royal Arch Masons, Oshkosh Council #8 Royal Select Masons, Oriental Chapter #16 Order Eastern Star, Beja Shrine, Bethel Shrine #2 White Shrine of Jerusalem, Bethel #36 Oshkosh Chapter, and Oshkosh Commander #11 Knights Templar. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and served an officer for many Masonic organizations. Vern was a very active man, always looking for something to do. He spent many happy hours doing his projects at the cottage or around the house. He was never too old to try something new, including boogie boarding in Hawaii at 72 years old. He was a loyal Packer, Badger, and Brewer fan. If they were playing, he was watching. He is survived by his sons, John (Sharon) Zwirchitz Jr., Appleton; Peter (Sally) Zwirchitz, Oshkosh; Paul Zwirchitz, Waupaca; and his son-in-law, John Craig, Madison; his grandchildren, John (Melissa) Craig Jr., Waunakee; Becky (Michael) Glaeser, Ripon; Alison (Michael) Hipp, Dearborn Heights, MI.; Stephanie (Nick) Cowling, Neenah; Katie Zwirchitz, Waupaca; Zachary Zwirchitz, Oshkosh; and Kari Zwirchitz, Madison; five great-grandchildren, Tori and Paige Craig; James and Molly Glaeser; and Drew Hipp; three sisters, Violet Jones, Eau Claire; Gladys Froemming, Park Falls; and Mavis (Ernie) Bushman, Galloway. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joan; daughter, LeAnn Craig; brother, Maynard Zwirchitz; sister, Dorothy Haupt; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Laurin and Amy Miller. Visitation for Vern will be held on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home-Westside from 5:00-8:00 PM. Funeral services for LeVern will be held on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Trinity Episcopal Church (311 Division Street, Oshkosh) with Rev. Thomas Haverly officiating. An additional visitation will be held on Wednesday at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Burial will be at Lake View Memorial Park where military honors will be performed. In lieu of flowers memorials have been established for Trinity Episcopal Church and the Shriners Childrens Hospital. The family wishes to thank those that took such good care of Vern, including the staff at Aurora Medical Center and Gabriels Villa where he felt at home for the last two years.
