Lila Apell, age 88 of Oshkosh, Passed away on January 24, 2019 at Bethel Home. She was born on January 27, 1930 in Wausau, WI; the youngest daughter of the late Frank and Elsie (Borchardt) Haffeman. After graduating from Oshkosh High School, Lila worked in the Advertising Dept. of the Boston Store and at J.C. Penny store. On November 11, 1950 Lila married Don Apell at St. John’s Lutheran church on Main St. They were married for 56 years until Don’s passing in 2007. While raising their son and daughter she was also very active in various women’s organizations. She was especially active with the American Red Cross, first as a volunteer at the hospital and later with the blood drive programs. She was also an active volunteer in the library of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church where she and Don had been members for many years. Lila had also worked for 25 years for the Oshkosh Area School system having retired in January 1992. After a year or so of retirement she was hired by an agency and became a home caregiver. She enjoyed meeting and caring for all of her clients.
Lila is survived by her children, Guy (Gale) Apell, and Judy (Scott) Martell; 6 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Lila was preceded in death by her 5 siblings.
Funeral services for Lila will be at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home West (100 Lake Pointe Dr) on February 2, 2019 at 11AM. Rev. Jan Lavake will be officiating. A visitation will be from 10AM until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers a memorial to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and the American Red Cross will be established.
