Lillian L. Thomson

April 20, 1912 — May 2, 2011

Lillian Thomson - more familiarly called Lillie by those who loved her -- died May 2, 2011, at the age of 99. She was born April 20, 1912, in Duluth MN as one of six children, all of whom predeceased her. Her family moved to Chicago IL, where she met and married Oshkosh native, Harry L. Thomson, at the height of the Great Depression. The young couple honeymooned among the sand dunes of Indiana, lived for a time in and near the city, and finally moved to Oshkosh in 1948. Harry died in 1980.During her long and productive life, Lillie was destined to experience first-hand, the momentous events of the 20th Century and live life as one of the Greatest Generation. She enjoyed describing her era, which included evolution of the airplane and the auto, the joyous end of World War II and safe return of her three brothers, all of whom saw combat, Mans first walk on the moon, emergence of television, super markets, mobile telephones, computers and quick communication via email.During her years in Oshkosh, Lillie served on the board and as president of United Cerebral Palsy, and served on the Womens Guild of Trinity Episcopal Church. She was the first woman elected to the Board of Oshkosh Country Club. While at Evergreen she helped organize Evergreen Bridge Friends and was a volunteer in the Gift Shop. She was an avid bridge player, enjoyed the game immensely, and was still at the table bidding and playing the day before she died. Most important of all, Lillie loved and took great pride in her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren; and they in her. Most of them are now scattered across the country, but will come to celebrate her life and to see her gently placed to rest at Oakwood Cemetery.Surviving Lillian are her three daughters, Lucinda L. McCartney of Florida, Joan M. Jay of Virginia and Susan M. Vette of Oshkosh, as well as her greatly beloved son-in-law, John L Vette, Oshkosh. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Trayton T. Jay, Timothy W. Jay, Lorre F. Jay-Walker, Robert L. Blenker, Harry L. Blenker, John E. Blenker, Susanne E. Vette Moseley, Lucinda M. Vette and Jonelle L. Vette. Her great-grandchildren include: Meghan Jay, Kirby Jay, Kelley Jay, Lauren Blenker, Stephen Blenker, Harry L Blenker Jr, Nathan Jay, Matthew Jay, Iain VetteMoseley, Jacob Blenker, Anne Lucinda Blenker, Paige Blenker, Patrick Blenker and Hunter Blenker. The family wishes to thank the beautiful, caring staff at Evergreen, and Lillians very special caregiver, Sheila Fink.
