Linda Burke Youngquist passed away January 2,2025 after a long illness. She was the daughter of Leonard C. and Helen Wheaton Burke and was born in Ravenna, Ohio on February 5,1948. She was 76 years of age. The family moved to Shorewood, Wisconsin in January 1958.
Linda is preceded in death by her parents and two brother, Tom and Tim. May they rest in peace together. She is survived by her sister, Maureen.
Linda married James Youngquist on September 7, 1968. Shortly after the wedding his father told Jim he was going to be drafted into the Marines, so Jim decided to enlist in the Navy. Linda and Jim spent the next 4 years in California.
Linda made a home for Jim in the various cities where they lived- La Crosse, Eau Claire, Racine, Lake Tomahawk, and Oshkosh. When Jim became the director of Camp American Legion from 2006-2009, Linda was unofficially the co-director and Jim's right-hand "man", although she was a woman.
Linda graduated from UW-Stout and was a "wiz" with numbers following in her dad's footsteps. She worked at Bonetti Co. in Racine as an administrative manager for 8+ years, handling the accounting. In La Crosse, she worked at various accounting jobs and for H&R Block during tax season.
Linda had a beautiful cone plant garden which she attended before becoming ill. She enjoyed watching the Brewers, Bucks, and Packer, was an accomplished seamstress, and did extensive genealogy research on the Burkes and Wheatons in Ancestry.com. She loved their rescue dog, Reba, who was very distressed the day before her death by her condition.
After her father Leonard's early death from mesothelioma in 1984, Linda was like a "rock" for the remaining Burkes as well as being a "rock" to Jim. Jim and Maureen are going to have to move forward without her.
A service for Linda will be at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Homes- Westside (100 Lake Pointe Dr) on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at noon. A time of visitation will be held from 10 until the time of service.
Interment will be at Wisconsin Memorial Park in Brookfield, where her parents are buried.
The family would like to thank Compassus Hospice for two days care, Pastor Eric Holmgren and the emergency staff at Mercy Hospital early New Year's morning.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Oshkosh Area Humane Society or the Alzheimer's Society.
