Loretta Clarice Hoversten passed away on February 20, 2021 in Oshkosh, WI.
She was born August 31, 1934 at Dunn Center, ND to Rudolph and Ottilia (Gorder) Pletan, the 10th of 11 children.
After graduating from Dunn Center high school as Valedictorian, Loretta graduated, Magna Cum Laude, from Concordia Lutheran College (Moorhead, MN) in May 1958, with a major in Elementary Education. She taught second grade in Cloquet, MN where she met Thomas Hoversten who was an intern pastor. They were engaged on August 31, 1959 and married at Trinity Lutheran Church in Bismarck, ND on June 25, 1960.
Their son, Timothy Lorence, was born August 31, 1961. Their daughter, Gloria Ann, was born September 12, 1969.
Loretta taught elementary school at Mondovi and Deerfield, WI. She earned a master’s degree in Reading from UW-Madison and was hired as the Remedial Reading Specialist for DeForest, WI area schools. She retired in 1998 after having taught for 25 years.
An avid lover of music, she was involved in many choirs, singing solos, directing, as well as playing in a handbell choir, and serving on Worship and Music Committees.
She also served on the South Central Wisconsin Lutheran Women's Board for six years (two years as President).
Loretta and her family enjoyed many trips to the Hoversten Haven family cabins in northern MN, multiple trips to Iowa and North Dakota, as well as hitting most of the 50 states, and journeys to Egypt and some Mediterranean cruises.
A funeral service will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Williams, IA on Saturday, February 27, 2021, at 10:30 a.m., with internment graveside services at Williams Public Cemetery following.
Visitations will be held Friday, February 26, from 4-6 p.m., also at St. Paul's Lutheran in Williams, as well as Saturday morning from 9:30 until the start of the service.
Loretta is survived by her husband Thomas, one sister Joyce Peterson, one brother Donald Pletan, her son Tim (Liz) Hoversten, her daughter Gloria (Dan) Brandt, as well as six grandchildren: Ryan (Tashina) Weber, Kyle (Barb) Weber, Emma (Mercedes) Brandt, Carol Brandt, Ellen Brandt and Lucy Brandt. As well as by 7 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
