Lorraine Helen “Westpfahl” Miller, 92, of Omro, WI, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2021, at Country Villa Assisted Living, due to complications of Dementia. She was born to Carl and Grace Westpfahl in West Union, IA on April 17, 1929. Lorraine was the third of ten children. Upon her graduation in 1946, she immediately moved to Wilmette, IL to work at a country club. This began her 58-year career as a food server. Lorraine married Russell W. Miller in Park Ridge, IL on March 20, 1954, after he returned from the Korean War. They resided in Park Ridge where they raised their three children, Wendy, Craig, and Scott. She worked as a food server at Carson, Pirie Scott in Wilmette, IL in the buffet room for several years. She also worked at Arvey’s Restaurant in Niles, IL. Upon Russell’s death on May 8, 1988, she moved to Des Plaines, IL where she lived for several years until she abruptly decided to move to Oshkosh, WI to be closer to her grandsons. Later in life, she worked at Trinity Lutheran School in Oshkosh for several years. She served lunch to the students there until her retirement at age 85. She was affectionately known as “Lunch Lady.”
Lorraine is survived by her daughter, Wendy (Stanley) Mermall of Oshkosh, WI. She is also survived by her grandson, Evan (Briana) Mermall, and great-grandson, Leonardo of Menasha, WI; and grandson, Ryan (Sylvia) Mermall, and great-grandson, Jonathan of McHenry, IL. She is survived by three siblings: Ruth Amundson of Clermont, IA, Betty (Dale) Freeman of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Richard Westpfahl of Roseville, MN. Additionally, Lorraine is survived by her brother-in-law, Ken (Betty) Miller of Des Plaines, IL, and two sisters-in-law, Ruth Westpfahl of Festus, MO, and Carol Miller of Roseville, MI, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband Russell of 34 years, her parents, son Craig Miller of Skyline, AL, and son Scott Miller of North Fond Du Lac Wisconsin, several siblings Wallace, Florentine Hauser, Marjorie Bradley, Ken, Elbert, and Louise, three brothers in law, Conrad Hauser, Charles Bradley, and Ken Amundson, Don Miller, and Glen Miller, and sisters-in-law, Joyce Westpfahl and Barb Westpfahl. She was also preceded in death by two nephews, Mike Bradley, and Kevin Amundson.
Cremation has taken place with a memorial service to be held at First English Lutheran Church in Oshkosh at a later date.
Lorraine will always be known for her love of shopping and using her lifetime discount card from Carson’s. She was also known for her love of baking, especially her Seven Layer Bars, Cheesecake, and Chocolate Chip Cookies.
Her family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the wonderful and caring staff at Country Villa over the past few years, as well as the compassionate nurses of Generations Hospice and Heartland Hospice. They also want to thank Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home in Oshkosh for their assistance with serving the family.
