Lorraine M. Benner Freiberg of Oshkosh, loving and faithful servant of her Lord, lived 90 active years and passed away peacefully February 9, 2016, after a short illness. She was born at home April 16, 1925 in Oshkosh, the daughter of the late Mary K. (Paffenroth) and Conrad Benner, both of whom were Volga Deutsch immigrants from Jagodnaja Poljana, Saratov, Russia. A graduate of Oshkosh High School, she worked at W.T. Grant Company in Oshkosh and Chicago, Foster-Lothmen Mills, and until retirement at Wisconsin National Life where she was an executive secretary. She was a lifelong and devoted member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she served on the Ladies and Altar Guilds. Lorraine spent 19 wonderful years married to her true love, Edward Pud Freiberg. After retirement, they moved to their cottage near Crivitz and enjoyed the northwoods and their four beloved German Shepherds. After Ed passed away, she moved back to Oshkosh and became an avid line dancer with the Oshkosh Senior Center and for many years volunteered at EAA AirVenture. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, working crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and playing golf.Lorraine is survived by sisters: Jane A. Kaufmann and Mary Ann (Edward "Sonny") Jungwirth; sister-in-law, Joanne Hagene Benner, nieces: Gail (Keith) Kleveno, Sue (Craig Jett) Benner, Jody (Thomas) Neice, Kristine (Pete Pauer) Van Buskirk, and Cheryl Loechelt; nephews: Gerald (Jacqueline) Eichman, Stephen (Dawn) Kaufmann, Michael (Mary Lou) Kaufmann, Thomas (Barb) Kaufmann, Terry (Leora) Loechelt, Kim (Joan) Jungwirth, Keith Jungwirth, and Kevin (Rebecca) Jungwirth; numerous grand and great-nieces and nephews; stepsons: Chris and Mark (Bonnie) Freiberg, step grandchildren and great grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Edward Freiberg, sisters: Helen M. Kinderman, Alice C. Eichman, Betty J. Loechelt; brothers: Leonard and Milton C. Benner; and niece, Shirley Berry.Funeral service for Lorraine will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 338 N. Eagle Street, with Rev. David Pagel officiating. Friends and family may visit at the church from 9:30 am until the time of service. Private interment will take place at Lake View Memorial Park. Memorials may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church Ladies Guild.Lorraine was exceedingly kind and generous, especially with her chocolate chip cookies. Her family loved her dearly and she will be greatly missed. We want to thank the wonderful staff at Park View Health Center for the compassionate care they gave to Lorraine in the last month of her life.
