Lowell E. Steinhilber, age 100, of Oshkosh, passed away on Friday May 12, 2017 at his residence. He was born in Oshkosh on September 4, 1916 a son of the late Leo and Emma(Siewert) Steinhilber. On June 21, 1952 he married Phyllis Gumz in Oshkosh. She preceded him in death on March 31, 1995.
Lowell was a graduate of Oshkosh High School class of 1935. After high school he enlisted in the Army Air Corps as a private. He also attended and graduated from the Air Force Technical School Chanute Field in Illinois and the Tech Command School at Yale University. He spent several years at an instructor at the Air Force Tech School in Keester Field, Mississippi before going overseas. He returned from the Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel.
Following his military career he returned to Oshkosh with two fellow veterans and started Valley Airways in Neenah. He also was the Wisconsin Representative for Baker Paper Company for many years.
Lowell was a longtime member of Peace Lutheran Church where he served on the church council and as an usher for many years. He enjoyed woodworking reading, spending time with his family and after his retirement enjoyed playing plenty of golf.
He is survived by his two sons James and Thomas(Patty) Steinhilber, and three grandchildren Sean Steinhilber, Kira Steinhilber, and Scott Steinhilber.
Preceding Lowell in death were his beloved wife, an infant daughter Sharon and his brother Roland Steinhilber.
Funeral services for Lowell will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church(240 W. 9th Ave.). Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Peace Lutheran Cemetery where full military honors will be held.
