Margaret Bertha Krentz, age 96, passed away peacefully at Felician Village in Manitowoc. The daughter of German immigrants, Fred and Elizabeth (Ehlenberger) Richter, she was born on August 1, 1919 in New London. She was united in marriage to Gerald R. Krentz on November 19, 1947 in Milwaukee. Their marriage was blessed with two children. During the 1940s, Margaret completed the Wisconsin County Normal Teachers Training. In 1960, she was awarded a BA in Education from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. She was the first person in her family to attend college.Margaret loved teaching and children. During the course of her career, she educated hundreds of children. She taught in country schools from one-room school houses to high schools in Omro, Fremont, Kiel and Brussels during the 1940s. She worked for the Oshkosh Public School System as a teacher at Dale Elementary School from 1960-1982, and at Jefferson Elementary School from 1982 until her retirement in 1983. Because of her caring nature, it was not unusual for her to provide lunches and snacks for the low-income children in her classes. In later life, she lit up when she met former pupils and discovered how she had touched their lives. Each one of her students was special to her.Margaret was an active member of St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church. In addition, she devoted many hours of her time to the Winnebago County Retired Educator's Association. She enjoyed a wide variety of dance classes at the Oshkosh Seniors Center, and was an avid seamstress. Margaret took great pleasure in traveling to Germany to renew ties with her extended family in Dresden, Germany. Margaret is survived by her son, Randall (Kristine) Krentz of Sheboygan, one daughter, Janice (Peter Silverstein) Krentz of Hamden, Connecticut, three grandchildren: Kristian (Sarah) Krentz, Rebecca (Sam) Reinhardt and Julia Silverstein; three great-grandchildren: Caleb and Brock Krentz, and Cooper and Max Reinhardt. She is further survived by a sister, Marian Sage of Oshkosh. In addition she was blessed with two step-grandaughters and eight step-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gerald, who passed in 1979; three brothers: Henry, Rudolph and George Richter. A time to celebrate Margaret's life will be held on Monday, May 2, 2016. A visitation will take place from 10-11AM with a prayer service at 11AM at the Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home, 402 Waugoo Ave., Oshkosh, followed by a graveside service.Memorial donations will be directed to St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oshkosh, WI. Because of Margaret's giving and caring nature, the family asks that her friends and loved ones perform a random act of kindness in her memory. The family would like especially to thank the Felician Village staff for the loving care she received as a resident there.
