Marjorie D. Westergard

Marjorie Dorothy Westergard passed from this life into eternal peace on March 13, 2014, at Bella Vista, Oshkosh. Born Elizabeth Montgomery on January 12, 1927, to Martha Montgomery of Chicago, IL, she was adopted from the Cradle Adoption Home in Evanston, IL by Eva Emma and George Reifsnider Blanchard and christened Marjorie Dorothy Blanchard.Marjorie grew up in Riverside IL, attended Carroll College in Waukesha, WI, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1948. She later went on to earn her Masters Library Science degree from the UW-Madison in 1975.After graduation, she was employed as a recreational therapist at the Winnebago State Hospital where she met James Paul Westergard to whom she wed on September 1, 1951, until his passing August of 2000.After being a full time mom for ten years, she was employed by the village of Verona for 6 years as the swimming beach manager and then assistant librarian. She then worked for the State of Wisconsin for 21 years as a librarian until her retirement in 1989. Her numerous volunteer activities included Cub Scouts, Friendship Force of WI, Meals on Wheels, RSVP driver & Verona Senior Citizens. Marge also served on the Boards for Dane County Historical Society, Friends of the Verona Public Library and New Library Task Force, and the Westridge Condominium Association in Verona. Marge also loved to travel, visiting her offspring across the US, to many countries in Europe and Central America & on cruises to the Caribbean, Alaska, Hawaii, and Nova Scotia. One of the highlights of her globe-trotting was a trip to the Galapagos Islands.Mom will be remembered by her three sons and their families; Lee (Linda) of Newport News, VA, grandchildren, Joshua and Heather, Thomas (Connie) of Oshkosh, grandsons Nick and Matt (Kristin); William (Patrick) of Evergreen, CO and three great-grandchildren Lily, Bryce, and Bria.Marjories family is grateful for the care and compassion given to Mom by Generations Hospice, and the staff at Bella Vista during this difficult time.Marge has donated her body to the UW Medical College and a family celebration of her life will take place later this summer.
