On February 22, 2016, Mark Spalding entered the baseball park in the sky. Mark was born on September 14, 1970 as a lifelong resident of Oshkosh. He married Melissa Anderson on March 23, 2002.He graduated from Oshkosh North in 1989. Mark most currently worked as a manufacturing technician at Plexus in Neenah.Mark was an avid sports fan and looked forward to fantasy football every year. In fact he started preparing for it the first chance he got. Mark was not only a sports fan, but a very active participant, at least trying almost every sport. His favorite by far was baseball; starting with T-ball to high school. Some of his favorite baseball games were played while playing on the Marcos traveling baseball team.Mark enjoyed wood working and he excelled at it. He enjoyed playing cards and was very competitive. He did not like to lose! Mark was known for his sense of humor. He took pride in making people laugh. Mark enjoyed collecting sports memorabilia. Mark was especially grateful for his 16 years sobriety. He was always open to share his story if needed to help another alcoholic.In recent years, Mark and his wife traveled to Washington D.C., Las Vegas (where he met Pete Rose), and Tennessee.Survivors include his wife: Melissa; his father: Ron Spalding; his sister: Deb (Jason) Salzwedwel; sister in law: Laura (Brian) Hickson; brother in law: Joe Anderson; father in law: Gary (Chris) Anderson; mother in law: Judy Anderson; nieces: Taylor 9a.k.a. Nibitz) Salzwedel, Rachel and Amber Hickson, and Alexis Anderson; and nephews: Jack Salzwedel and Nate Hickson.He is further survived by his God children: Brittany and Sebatian Walker, and Joey Esselman; aunts: Judy (David) Ludwig, Chrissy (a.k.a. TDa) Esselman; uncles: Bill (Jan) Fauk, Tom (a.k.a. Slappoh) Fauk; his cats Sydney, Max, and Pete; and many cousins, other family, and friends.Mark was preceded in death by his mother: Cheryl Spalding; grandparents: Jane and Alvin Fauk and Wilbur and Leona Spalding; uncle: Chuck Esselman; and aunt: Pat Fauk.A funeral service for Mark will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Homes-(Westside) with Pastor Connie Weiss officiating. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Family encourages you to dress in your favorite sports teams apparel. Mark would have wanted that, Red Sox prohibited. Baseball hats are also welcome, but again no Red Sox! Interment will be at Lake View Memorial Park.In lieu of flowers, memorials will be established in Marks name to Nova Counseling Services in Oshkosh and Oshkosh Youth Baseball.The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff at Aurora-St. Lukes Hospital in Milwaukee for the care and attention they provided to Mark during his stay.
