Marlys J. Bloom, 79, of Oshkosh died at Mercy medical Center on Saturday August 12, 2006. She was born April 3, 1927 in Dysart, Iowa a daughter of Glen and Hattie Hook. Marlys married Max Bloom on February 23, 1952 in Waterloo, Iowa.Marlys graduated as a registered nurse from Allen Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, Waterloo, Iowa. She was employed by Mercy medical Center for seventeen years.Marlys served many years on the board and as a leader of Camp Fire Girls, while her daughters were growing up and was the recipient of the Luther Gulick Award. She was a member of the Far Vu Ladies Golf League until her health failed. She loved to travel and had visited many foreign countries.She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Max Bloom of Oshkosh; three daughters, Cynthia (Dr. Charles) Shuler of thousand Oaks, CA; Rebecca (Tony) Strange of Phoenix, AZ; and Sandra (Dr. John) Livermore of Sheboygan, WI.; one brother, Dr. Kenneth (Elizabeth) Hook, Albuquerque, N.M.; one sister Connie (Roger) Sash of Omaha, NE.; and sister-in-law Phyllis (Tom) Benyo, Nashua, IA. She is further survived by eight grandchildren, Zachary, Hilary, Myles, Bart, and Duncan Shuler, also Andrew, Daniel and Julia Livermore. Marlys was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Leonard Hook.Private family services will be held at a later date. A memorial to the American Diabetes Association has been established.
