Mary B. Boss joined her beloved husband, John, in Heaven on Monday, September 24, 2012, at the age of 92. She was born in Chicago, IL daughter of the late Berthold and Jennie (Plummer) Schroeder on May 23, 1920. Mary graduated from Oshkosh High School in 1937 and from Oshkosh Teachers College in 1941. Upon graduation, Mary taught transitional kindergarten/first grade in Barton for one year. On November 14, 1942, she married John F. Boss at her grandfather George W. Plummers home. Together, they lived a full life on the family farm. Their love and devotion to one another was exemplary; they celebrated 65 years of marriage. He preceded her in death on May 6, 2008.Over the years, Mary participated in many groups and organizations. She was a 4-H leader, active in Mothers Club, Homemakers Club, Lambda Chi Sorority Club, St. Pauls Ladies Guild, bridge groups, sheepshead games, and helped care for many people throughout her life. Mary enjoyed cooking and made many delicious meals for her family and the farm help. She also enjoyed playing the piano at home, as well as at church and for school programs. Mary was a 50 year plus member of St. Pauls United Church of Christ. She will be missed by many.John and Mary were blessed with four children, Kathryn Thomsen, J. Fred Boss, both of Oshkosh; Margaret (Tom) Butcher, of Sanibel Island, FL; Ruth (Lynn) Retzlaff, of Oshkosh. Mary is also survived by eight grandchildren, Christian (Heidi) Thomsen, Jenni (Mark) Riedeman, Molly Boss, Benjamin Boss, John (Julie) Butcher, Bethany Butcher, John Retzlaff, and Mary Retzlaff, and eight great-grandchildren Jack and Lily Thomsen, Will, Luke, and Noah Riedeman, Sam, Sarah, and Lucy Butcher. She is further survived by her dear friends Norma Maxwell and Betty Wilson. In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by son-in-law, Jack, daughter-in-law, Anne, brothers, Ralph Schroeder and Clarence Schroeder, and a granddaughter Katie Boss.A time of sharing memories and honoring Mary will be held on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012 at St. Pauls United Church of Christ, corner of Hwy. 21 and Leonard Point Road, Oshkosh, from 11:00 until 1:00. The funeral service will begin at 1 P.M. with the Pastor RaeAnn Beebe officiating. Burial will be in the Plummer Cemetery in the Town of Oshkosh.In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for St. Pauls U.C.C.Mary was a generous lady, always giving and helping others. She leaves behind many wonderful and cherished memories to be shared.
