Mary Elizabeth Mathe, age 81, of Oshkosh, WI, passed into her eternal rest on January 26th. She was born March 7, 1942 to Florence and Leonard Mathe Sr. She was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Parish and served the parish on various committees and ministries, and played in the parish band.
Ms. Mathe received her Bachelors and Masters of Science degrees in education and administration from UW-Oshkosh and taught school for over 30 years in the Wisconsin and St. Louis, MO areas, and as a substitute in the Oshkosh Public and Catholic school systems. She was a volunteer to the American Red Cross at Mercy Medical Center and also served as a cantor and music minister at Mercy Medical Center.
Her love of music brought happiness to herself and others. She enjoyed writing poetry, gardening, and being well prepared for everything.
Survivors include six sisters: Sr. Carol and Sr. Barbara of Manitowoc, WI, Dorothy (Mark) Brey, Katherine (Peter) Wilson, Ellen (Alan) Ives all of Oshkosh, and Therese (Dan) Robinson of Wautoma, WI; four surviving brothers: Francis, George, Peter (Bonnie) all of Oshkosh, and Leonard Jr. of Minneapolis, MN; many nieces and nephews; many grand nieces and grand nephews; and two special, helping friends JoAnne Brown and Mark Gajewski. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard Sr. and Florence, and her brother Joseph.
An evening visitation and wake service will be held on Wednesday, January 31st from 4 to 7 pm at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home Lake Pointe site. On Thursday, February 1st at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church - St.Mary’s site in Oshkosh visitation is at 10:30 am, followed by the funeral service at 11:30 am, with a luncheon immediately after. A burial service will be held at Sacred Heart Cemetery at 2 PM.
Mary Beth’s words “Take my hand, Lord. Receive,” as written on her headstone, have now been fulfilled.
