Mary Jane Overton, age 89, of Oshkosh died on Saturday, February 16, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center. She was born on November 10, 1918 in the Town of Oshkosh a daughter of George and Matilda Bahrke Overton.Mary Jane had been a lifelong member of Trinity Episcopal Church, where she was very active. She graduated from UW-Oshkosh, then taught high school science, and later worked at Lake View Memorial Park as their secretary for over 30 years. Mary Jane enjoyed camping in a lot of the national parks out west and in Canada. She also enjoyed flower gardening and sharing the plants with others, geology, archeology, and being a rock hound, which she collected and polished many rocks and gems. Mary Jane was well read on many topics and was the keeper of the family memories, working to preserve the traditional ways of life. She was known for making the best cookies, which her family and friends will miss. Mary Jane was a member of the Earth Science Club, where she was editor of their bulletin and volunteered at the annual Rock & Mineral Show. She was also a member of the Robert Ritzenhaler Chapter of the Wisconsin Archeological Society. Her survivors include a sister Elizabeth L. Overton of Oshkosh; a brother William (Lila) Overton of Oshkosh; two sisters-in-law Patricia Overton of Oshkosh and Lydia Overton of Texas; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Thomas W. Overton, James B. Overton, George W. Overton, Paul Overton, and John E. Overton; two nieces Katherine Overton Blaauw and Jamie Overton; a nephew Jack Overton, and a great-nephew Nathaniel Overton.A celebration of Mary Janes life will be held at Noon, Friday, February 22, 2008 at Trinity Episcopal Church (311 Division Street, Oshkosh) with Fr. Steven Powers officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to the service time. Inurnment will be at Plummer Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Trinity Episcopal Church in Mary Janes name would be appreciated.
