Mary N. Giffin

Mary Giffin born Maria Natalina Monti on December 27, 1923 passed peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on January 28, 2021. She was born in Trimountain, Michigan to Italian immigrants, but lived the majority of her youth in Cicero, a Chicago suburb.

Mary left school at 15 to begin supporting her family and didn't stop working until retiring from Walmart at 90 years old. Working brought her much joy as she loved being with people. She worked at Western Electric in Chicago, then Standard Coil where she met her husband of 55 years, Pete Giffin. They had a son, Monty, and when he started kindergarten, she was right back to work. Mary spent almost sixty years in retail and her career spanned working at a small grocery store to Walmart's electronics department.

When she wasn't working Mary was an amazing seamstress and made many beautiful dresses and even suits for Pete. She knit and was known for her excellent pies and homemade soups. She and Pete loved to go dancing. After Pete passed, Mary found great companionship with Frank. Their relationship brought her much happiness in her final years.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and a beloved sister. Mary will be deeply missed by her family, her son Monty and his wife Laura, grandchildren Zac and Sara (Matthew) West, great grandson Graham Monty West as well as her companion, Frank LaPinska.

We feel lucky to have had her in our lives for so many wonderful years. Mary was an extraordinary woman who was loved by many. We'd like to extend a special thanks to Hospice and would ask that gifts be sent to them.
