Melvin D. Newell, age 91, in the town of Utica, A farmer all his life passed away on April 21, 2016. Melvin was the eldest son of the Newell family farm which was homesteaded in 1857. In his years of farming he also did hay, straw and fertilizing business custom bailing and plowed snow for neighbors. He helped found the Utica Volunteer Fire Department and was a charter member for over 30 years. He was a past member of FFA, and the Winnebago Farm Bureau. He was a present member of Steam and Gas Engine Club Inc. Melvin married Lucile Scheller on November 6, 1948.Melvin is survived by one son, Darwin (Joan) Newell, of the town of Utica; four daughters, Shirley Newell, of St. Francis, WI, Nancy Newell, of Canton, GA, Donna (Lawrence) Rogers, of Mammoth, OR, and Brenda(Richard) Wittgrieve, of Elkhart, WI ; eight grandchildren, Michael(April Monroe) Sipple, Aysha(David) Hofshi, Adam(Heather) Rogers, Allison(Thomas) Hall, Nathan(Ivy) Newell, Ashley(Jeremy) Tesch, Robert(Michelle) Behr, David(Carrie) Behr; two step-grandchildren, Don(Kelly)Wolf, Brian Behr. Melvin is further survived by 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.Melvin is preceded in death by his loving wife, Lucile, of 56 years; his parents Ray and Laura (Bradley) Newell; Brother and sister-in-law Edgar and Rosemary Newell; brother Frank and sister Charlotte and son-in-law Richard BehrA memorial service for Melvin will be held at Elo Methodist Church of the Nazarene (1134 Williams Rd, Pickett, WI) on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at 6PM. Rev. Doug Detert will be officiating. A visitation will be held from 2PM until the time of service. A graveside service will be held privately
