Melvin George Wickert

Melvin G. Wickert, 83, of Oshkosh died on Thursday, November 24, 2005 at Omro Care Center. He was born on July 19, 1922 in Oshkosh the son of Harvey and Clara Hauert Wickert. Mel married Jean A. Scheinert on September 25, 1948 in Oshkosh. Jean preceded him in death on August 7, 1998.Mr. Wickert was a butcher by trade and owned Wickerts Food Mart until 1985. He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, the South Side Businessmens Association, Friends of the Fox, and was a past president of the Winnebago Water Ways. Melvin was a Charter member of the Oshkosh Outboard Club, he had been a member since 1937 and was twice named boater of the year. Melvin loved boating, time spent with his family and his dog, Skippy. Survivors include his daughter, Kay Wickert of Oshkosh; nephew, Richard (Lindsey) Scheinert of Cape Coral, FL; sister-in-law, June Ulrich of Oshkosh and his cousin, Don (Sally) Baehman of Oshkosh.Mel was preceded in death by his parents, wife and one brother, Howard.The funeral service will be on Sunday, November 27, 2005 at 4:00 PM at Calvary Lutheran Church, 2580 W. Ninth Ave, with the Rev. Randy Van Ert officiating. Family and friends may call at the church on Sunday from 1:00 PM to the time of service.Burial will be in Peace Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.Thank you to Omro Care Center for the great care Mel received while he was at the care center.
