Melvin W. Shorty Bloedow, 83, of Oshkosh went to his Eternal Home on Monday, April 27, 2009 at Evergreen Retirement Community. Melvin was born on January 26, 1926 in the Town of Black Wolf to Ervin and Regina Abraham Bloedow. He attended St. Johns Lutheran School, Town of Nekimi. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Johns Lutheran Church. He served in the U. S. Navy from 1944 to 1946 in the South Pacific. He worked at the Paine Lumber Co. for 48 years. On May 29, 1948 he married Lillian Tarala at Zion Lutheran Church. Shorty was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.His wife, Lillian survives him along with three sisters, Irene Will of North Fond du Lac, Laura Knack of Oshkosh, Ruby (Arthur) Crook of Oshkosh; three brothers, Clarence Bloedow of Oshkosh, Robert (Barbara) Bloedow of Pickett, Donald (Ida) Bloedow of Madison; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy (Arvin) Hesse of Appleton, Donna Tarala of Plover; two brothers-in-law John (Charlotte) Tarala of California, Clarence Tarala of Winneconne; and many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, step father George Binning; mother and father-in-law, Andrew and Katie Tarala; an infant brother, Elmer Bloedow; four brothers-in-law, Jerome Will, Raymond Knack, William Tarala, Eddie Tarala; and one sister-in-law Gloria Bloedow.The funeral service will be on Friday, May 1, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Lake View Memorial Park Chapel (2786 Algoma Blvd) with the Rev. Paul Lidtke officiating. Family and friends may call at the chapel on Friday from 9:30 AM to the time of service. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
