Mike “Milwaukee Mike” Duehring, age 61, passed away unexpectedly at Aurora Medical Center on Saturday, July 27, 2024. He was born to Fredrick and Dorothy (Schmidt) Duehring on November 21, 1962 in Milwaukee. Mike was raised in Germantown for most of his childhood. He attended Germantown High School and played basketball as a Warhawk. When choosing a college, he decided on UW Whitewater, to remain a Warhawk. He graduated in 1984 with a BBA in Marketing and was a proud member of the Phi Sigma Epsilon Fraternity, in the role of treasurer. He told many stories of his frat days, and often compared them to the movie Animal House. He worked for Parker Floor with his father during school and then began working for Milwaukee lnsulation. While employed at Milwaukee Insulation Mike had another coworker named Mike. In order to differentiate between the two, Mike from Madison was called Mad Mike and Mike from Milwaukee was called Milwaukee Mike.
Mike enjoyed the roofing industry and worked very hard to perfect the craft of estimating. For the last 23 years, Mike was employed at Northern Metal and Roofing based out of the West Bend office. He was a masterful, roofing estimator, with exceptional ability to always make the customer get the best deal. He was very respected and admired in the industry all throughout the state.
Mike loved all kinds of sports. He met his wife, Barb on the volleyball court playing at Terry’s Bar in Downtown Oshkosh. The Head Toastmasters, his volleyball team, won both the league and the drinking trophy many years in a row. Mike and Barb continued playing for about 25 years, switching to THE BAR in Oshkosh. Mike played golf and just started playing pickleball. He also loved fishing and deer hunting. Mike loved to be active and followed all kinds of sports, especially the Packers, Brewers, Badgers and Bucks. He loved to run Super Bowl and March Madness pools. He was very competitive in nature and could turn anything into a game so he could win.
Mike and Barb married in Door County on Oct. 17, 1992 and have been living south of Oshkosh on a farmette. Mike took great pride in keeping his lawn (acres) manicured. Mike would always state his greatest achievement, joy and passion was his children and grandchild. He loved being a father to Sami and Michael and grandfather to Tripp. Mike took great satisfaction watching his children grow up to become wonderful adults. His pride and joy was his grandson Tripp. They have been fishing and frogging together since Tripp could walk. South Park has been their favorite place to catch the “little ones”.
Mike was very devoted to Barb. They both had a sense of humor, inside jokes and enjoyed being homebodies. Their love for each other was rare and enduring. He was a generous soul who would offer to help any way he could or give you the shirt of his back.
MIlw Mike is survived by his mother, Dorothy (Schmidt) Duehring, his wife, Barb Schroeder Tuchscherer, his children, Sami (Caleb Zautner) and Michael Duehring (special friend Alyssa Clemmons) and grandson Michael (Tripp), Tripp’s mother, Jennifer Kolb, sister and brother-in-law, Michelle Duehring Bischel (Dave) and niece Claire Bischel. In addition, Mike is also survived by brothers-and-sisters-in-law, Jack (Mary) Schroeder, Mary Lou Schroeder (Doug Falk), R Bruce Schroeder (Delia), Mike Schroeder (Jody), many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition, Mike is also survived by Uncles and Aunts: Joe (Rose) Schmidt, Tom (Mary) Kurth, Darrell (Cathy) Duehring and Bob (Sandy) Duehring.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Fredrick Duehring, Mother-and-Father-in-law, John and Irene Schroeder, Uncle Wally and Aunt Ginny Schmidt Kohler, Sister and brother-in-law JoAnn and Bill Van Dyke.
A visitation will be held at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Homes (100 Lake Pointe Dr) on Saturday, August 3, 2024 from 3PM until 6PM. A celebration of life will follow. To honor Mike’s memory and passion for all things sports, please feel free to wear your favorite Packer, Brewer, Bucks or Badgers gear. Any Bears, Cubs, Vikings and Lions will not be permitted. Mike’s legacy will live on in all the lives and hearts he has touched.
