Mildred Helene (Henschel) Harks-Waterman, 90, of Oshkosh went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 29, 2007 at Bethel Home. She was born the fourth of six children on November 28, 1916 in the home her father built for his family in Chicago. Mildreds spiritual life began at her baptism at Trinity Lutheran Church. She was confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Church. She attended Austin High School and graduated from John Marshall High School all in Illinois.Mildred married Theodore Harks on August 15, 1936 at Bethel Lutheran Church. They worked together at Borchard and Borchard Drug Co. for a number of years. The marriage was blessed with two children. Mildred and Ted were caring and concerned parents. Their greatest gift to their children was their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. For most of her life, Mildred worked as an accountant at various places of employment. The Harks lived in Chicago, Elmwood Park, Wood Dale and Bartlett until the death of Ted in 1986. As a new widow, Mildred very sadly sold their home and moved to the Zion Apartments in Oshkosh. This move brought her very close to her son and his family who also lived in Oshkosh at the time. Mildred joined Trinity Lutheran Church and helped in the school classrooms and office as needed. She ran the Young at Heart Club at Zion Lutheran Church for several years. Since being employed had been a joy she sought employment through Kelly Girl Services and worked at many places in Oshkosh.On October 14, 1989 Mildred married Roger Waterman at Trinity Lutheran Church. They celebrated with a reception at the American Legion Hall where hundreds of family and friends wished them well.After a honeymoon in California, Mildred and Roger moved to a home on Taft Ave and began their commitment to community service. They were instrumental in bringing the Senior Center to completion, and worked with C. W. A. G. and were very active in the A.A.R.P., where she was a Community Coordinator for Wisconsin. Mildred Worked especially hard to get the Neighborhood Watch started in their area.Mildred suffered a stroke in July of 1999. Roger cared for Mildred in their home even after she broke a hip the following year. They moved to Carmel in 20000. However after a sever illness with pneumonia she moved into Bethel Home.Survivors include her husband, Roger of Oshkosh; two children, Naomi Grosch-Dittmann of Crystal Lake IL, Theo (Linda) Harks of Milwaukee; six grandchildren, Fredrick (Deanna) Grosch, Timothy (Jennifer) Grosch, Tamara (Peter) Schopen, Daniel (Amy) Grosch, Theodore Harks and David (Rebecca) Harks; eleven great grandchildren, Tara, Tabbi-Lynn, Lauren, Alexander, Andrew, Peter, Caleb, Lily, Benjamin and Alex. She considered Rogers family her own. They include one son Dennis (Diane) Waterman; three grandchildren James (Lusine Movsisyan) Waterman, Sara (Shawn) Kneevers, Anthony (Tami) Waterman; four great grandchildren, Evan, Tanis, Reno and Aidan. She was also survived by, one sister, Adele Klabon; two brothers, Ervin and Arthur Henschel and one sister-in-law Lillian Henschel.She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Theodore and two brothers, Hugo and Edmund Henschel.The funeral service will be on Monday, July 2, 2007 at Noon at Bethel Home Chapel with the Rev. Marvin Ahlborn officiating. Family and friends may call at the Bethel Home Chapel on Sunday from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM and on Monday at the Chapel from 11:00 AM to the time of service. Her body will be laid to rest in the Lutheran Church of St. Luke Cemetery, Itasca IL. to await with us all the Resurrection to eternal Life.Memorial contributions may be made in Mildreds name to Bethel Home or Trinity Lutheran Church, Oshkosh.
