Neil “Pete” R. Nitz, age 83 of Oshkosh, passed away at Eden Meadows on Saturday, January 26, 2019. He was born on the family farm October 1, 1935 to the late John and Nina (Meyer) Nitz. Pete married his late wife, Barbara Jean Thiele on July 7, 1956 and their marriage was blessed with four sons.
Pete served in the Army National Guard from 1953 to 1961. He worked as a laminator at Menasha Corporation. Pete most recently attended St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church and was a past member of the Elks Lodge. He loved cars and loved to golf and bowl. He enjoyed camping with Barb and his boys and shared many cribbage games, cookouts and campfires with his sons and grandkids. After the passing of his loving wife Barb, he found a wonderful caring companion and shared many happy times with Betty Paulick. Together they attended family gatherings, and soccer games with her children and grandchildren who came to love and adore him as Grandpa Pete. During the winter months he enjoyed the cross-country drive to Betty’s Texas getaway. They shared 14 wonderful years spending time playing cards and enjoying time on the golf course with close friends. Pete also had a knack for remodeling and fixing things, a trait he passed down to his children.
He is survived by his sons: Bryon (Barbara), Peter (Norma), Paul (Tina) and Gary (Chell) Nitz; grandchildren: Kyle (Chandra), Zachary (Bethany), Katherine, Jesse, Brendan, Stephan and Samantha Nitz; four great grandchildren and one on the way; his best friend and partner, Betty Paulick; brothers: Charles (Pat), David (Linda), Jeff (Mary) Nitz; his sister, Judy Anderson. He is further survived by his brothers-in-law Jim Wiles, Dick (Nancy) Thiele, James (Erica)Thiele; daughter-in-law, Deb Nitz; many nieces and nephews and Betty’s children and grandchildren.
In addition to his late wife, Pete was preceded in death by his brother, John, sisters, Marilyn and Sharon, sister-in-law, Gerry Nitz and brother-in-law, Chuck Anderson.

Pete’s family would like to thank the staff at Eden Meadows for their caring way of working with Pa and the compassion they provided over the last year. A special thanks goes out to Dawn and Denise who formed a special bond with him as they humored him and played along in the “fun and games and trouble” Pa doled out and enjoyed on a daily basis. His quality of life was so much better because of the love, laughter, and care they provided.
