Oscar A. “Jr.” Rothe, 89, Oshkosh, passed away on Sunday, November 5, 2017. He was born September 23, 1928, in Oshkosh to Oscar and Elsie (Long) Rothe. He married Alice Reinke in Oshkosh on October 20, 1962; they celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary just 16 days prior to his passing. He worked over the years for Sunnyview and for the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, where he was the locksmith for 28 years (the “key man” there, as relatives liked to tease him) until retiring in 1989. He loved reading and was a WWII buff. He also enjoyed crossword puzzles, wood carving, watching TV, making terrible puns, and most of all, spending time with his family.
Oscar is survived by his wife, Alice; daughter Dawn (Tim) Luker, Green Bay; grandchildren Brittany (Anthony) Catalano, Little Chute; Melanie Luker, Buffalo NY; and Jordan Luker, Green Bay; brother-in-law Roy Roeder, Oshkosh; sisters-in-law Shirley Rothe, Oshkosh; and Rose Reinke, New London; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Merle (Ione), Marlyn (Regina), Ernest (Dolores), and Ralph; and sisters Vivian (Arbor) Chapin, Betty (Bob) Szep, Violet (Carl) Anderson, and Joyce Roeder.
Oscar is also survived by yet-unborn great-granddaughter Leighton Catalano, who is expected on January 9, 2018.
