Paul Edward Buetow of Winneconne went home to his Savior 1/3/2019, with loved ones by his side.
He was born to Edward and Bernice Buetow on October 5, 1943 in Oshkosh. Paul was preceded in death by his infant sister Caroline, and his parents Edward and Berniece (Baier). He was a faithful and honoring son to his parents through their illnesses later in life. Paul has been reunited with sorely missed friends and fellow musicians, especially Earl Pingell, Andy Schuh, Sam Oswald, Robert Haase, Norb Salzieder, and Carlton “Cully” Sawall. There is some amazing new music in heaven today.
Before age took its grip on Paul’s mobility, he was an active member at Peace Lutheran Church for over 70 years, playing sweet melodies for many services. He volunteered his talents at retirement homes, schools, and countless parades. Paul served in the US Army from 1965-1969. Following his service to his country he was faithful in his support of his fellow soldiers, playing Taps hundreds of times in the area. Paul was the manager of the VFW marching band for many years and his involvement in this brought him and others great joy. Paul was the accountant for Family Training Program until his retirement in 2015. Most likely one could find Paul fishing on the docks and loving living life in simplicity. Paul also enjoyed hunting and a good chat with Norm Luft and Lee Hanson who have been faithful friends of Paul, who’s lifelong adventures have provided for many entertaining stories. In addition, he never met a dog he didn’t like; his gentleness and kind spirt seemed to draw them in.
Paul considered one of his biggest successes being a Big Brother. He was a devoted friend and Big Brother for Big Brothers / Big Sisters Oshkosh for Eric Sawicki. He earned the title of Big Brother of the year in 1989. The times that Paul and Eric enjoyed involved fishing, music, talking, and a good bite to eat at Ardy and Ed’s. Paul and Eric’s relationship has spanned over 30 years, during which time he earned the title of ‘Grandpa’ to Eric’s children. Eric and his family are so thankful for Paul’s commitment to them through all the years.
Paul is survived by Eric and Tonia (Habeck) Sawicki and their children Anna and Wyatt. Eric’s family adopted Grandpa Paul and are grateful for having him in their lives. Anna and Wyatt will dearly miss Grandpa Paul’s affection for them, his sweet smile and his faithfulness. Paul is also survived by numerous cousins.
A memorial service for Paul will be held on Friday, January 25, 2019 at 1 p.m. at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Homes-Westside. Visitation will be held on Friday at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at Peace Lutheran Cemetery at a later date.
Eric and his family are extremely thankful for Jeff and Muriel Wiechman for being great neighbors and friends to Paul. They have provided him with much joy and happiness.
