Pearl Delia Backus

Pearl D. Backus, 89, of Oshkosh, returned to our Lord on Sunday, September 25, 2005 at her residence. She was born in Chippewa Falls, on December 31, 1915, the daughter of Ole and Anna Quale. On March 14, 1942 she married the love of her life, Alfred J. Backus in Chippewa Falls. Pearl worked for a time during the 70s as a food service worker at Black Hawk Commons where she delighted in interacting with the college students. But the joy of her life was to be a loving and supportive wife, mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother. Her warm smile, friendly eyes, and beautiful grey hair will be a memory that lives inside of each and every person who ever met her. To know Pearl Backus was to love her. In addition to her devoted husband, Pearl leaves behind four dearly loved children and daughters-in-law, all residing in Oshkosh: Rich, Len (Kathy), Larry (Marilyn), and Nancy.A doting grandmother, she is survived by ten wonderful grandchildren: Chris, Andy (Fiance Asia Hazelberg), Barbara (Fianc Aaron Jahncke), and Brian Backus all of Oshkosh, Allison (Dan Garrison) Backus of Portland, OR; Tammy Backus (special friend, Jesse Russel) of Madison, Cassie Backus (special friend, Eric Kuiper) of Milwaukee, Jennifer Miller of Milwaukee, Jessica Miller of Los Angeles, CA; and Christina Miller (special friend, Chris Severson) of Milwaukee, and great-grandson, Jacob Backus of Sacramento, CA; she is further survived by a brother, Orvin (Lois) Quale of Eau Claire, and two sisters, Bernice Wolfe of Eau Claire, and Irene Gundersen of Mondovi. She was preceded in death by her parents, a fraternal twin sister, Doris Quale, two brothers-in-law, Arnie Gunderson and Lewis Wolfe, and a grandson, Bret Backus.Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 pm on Thursday September 29, 2005 at the Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home – Westside. A memorial mass will be held at 10:00 am on Friday September 30, 2005 at St Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church in Oshkosh with Fr Doug LeCaptain officiating. Friends may visit from 9:00 am until the hour of service on Friday at the church.
