Phyllis E. Thayer

Phyllis E. Thayer, 91, of Oshkosh, passed away on December 14th, 2022, at Lake Pointe Villa. She was born on October 12th,1931 in North Fond du lac, to the late Paul and Jessie (Smith) Leu.

She married James Thayer December 28th,1954 in North Fond du lac, and went on to have 5 children. She had the pleasure of traveling to many different countries and islands for her husband’s job. She lived in Ripon from 1965 to 1984 and belonged to the Ripon Women’s Club and St. Pats Alter Society. She was a part of the Speed Queen Tennis team and played a lot of tennis with special friends. She & Jim later moved to Arizona, where they resided for 15 years. Her favorite thing while living there was when the family would come and visit. She later moved back to Oshkosh and enjoyed being near family as they meant so much to her and Jim.

Phyllis is survived by her sons; Ron (Maureen) Thayer, Jeff (Jamie) Thayer, Stuart (Sue) Thayer; daughter: Susie Smits; daughter in law, Toni Thayer; grandchildren; Katie (Justin), Christie, Daniel, Lindsay (Micah), Alaina, Jessie (Rob), Allie (David), Lucas, Shannon (Alex), Skylar; Great grandchildren Jude, Eva, Lola, Goldie, Landon, Cameron, Cole, Kayla, Carter, Harper, Weston, Avery. And a special niece Carol Anderson.

In addition to her parents, Phyllis is preceded in death by her husband Jim; her beloved son Brad Thayer; son in law Jerry Smits; brother Norman Leu and sister-in-law Gerri Leu; great grandson Gavyn and granddaughter Christie’s fiancé Sky Trader.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, January 6, 2023 at 11 a.m. at St. Raphael the Archangel Catholic Church with Rev. Tom Long officiating. Visitation will be at the church beginning at 9 a.m. until the time of the service.

The family would like to thank the staff at Lake Pointe Villa and Ascera Hospice.
