Phyllis J. Jungwirth

August 28, 1930 — December 24, 2018

Phyllis J. Jungwirth quietly passed away early in the morning of December 24, 2018 at Park View Health Care Center.

Phyllis was a “west sider” never moving more than 3 miles away from her childhood home on the west side of Oshkosh and was proud of her Germans from Russia heritage. She was one of four daughters born to John and Ella (Hanneman) Lautenschlager.

She met her sweetheart Bob, at a wedding she attended with her friend Gen Hugo who was Bob’s sister. They married on May 7th, 1949 and enjoyed almost 26 years of marriage until his unexpected death in 1975.

Our mom was one “tough cookie” who was fun loving, kind and caring.
She was a young mother who grew up with her children and was the glue that held the family together. Working part-time in retail, our mom still found time to be a wonderful homemaker and care for us in all our activities, making sure we developed a love for reading, music, art and the outdoors.

She loved to sing and won a singing contest as a 4 yr. old. She sang throughout her life: in her church choirs at St. Vincent, and at St. Peter/St. Mary Catholic churches, with the senior center Golden Tones and at one time with the Sweet Adelines.
She was also talented as an artist, enjoyed painting and was known for her ability to draw Popeye the Sailor Man. She created signs for stores she worked at and for the Otter Street Fishing Club where she was known as the “Buoy Queen”.

She appreciated traveling and was able to do so with her friend and companion George, attending many of his Navy Reunions and finally got to go on her promised trip to Hawaii. She enjoyed seeing many Broadway Plays in Chicago and also in New York City where she sang with Santa Claus outside of Macy’s just before the Thanksgiving Day parade.

She is survived by her three sisters: Lois Hoeft of Omro, Betty Dehn of Fond du Lac and Ione (Huns) Harrand of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; her dear children: Craig (Kathy), Dan (Jan) and daughter Roxy. She will be missed by her beloved grandchildren: Matt (Gina), Jenny (Brian) Scott, Bob (Beth), Andy, Megan (George) Folsom and Charlie. Further survived by her former daughter in law Barb, eight beautiful great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, in-laws Joseph and Theresa, her brothers and sisters in law: Leonard (Delores), Lucille (Sam) Isham, Gen (Don) Hugo, Eddie Hoeft, Bud Dehn, three nieces and four nephews.

She will be forever loved and dearly missed.
Grief never ends…..but it changes. It is a passage, not a place to stay. Grief is not a sign of weakness, nor a lack of faith. It is the price of Love…
