Randy K. Schoonover, age 65, of Appleton, passed away on Monday, November 27, 2023 at his residence following a courageous battle with renal cell carcinoma. He was born in Fond du Lac, WI on October 30, 1958 to the late Richard and Marion (Sass) Schoonover. While growing up, he attended schools in Fond Du Lac and Rosendale and graduated from Oshkosh West High School in 1977. His parents started the family business, Schoonover & Sons (Ring Locker Plant), where Randy worked alongside his parents and siblings. Randy also worked for Morgan Doors/Jeld-Wen for 26 years, starting on the factory floor and working his way up into management and inventory positions. After earning an associates degree from Fox Valley Technical College, he began working at Steel King Industries as a Production Material Analyst and retired in 2022. Throughout his career, Randy was a dedicated, respected, and hardworking man and because of this developed many friendships that lasted into his retirement. In 2018, Randy met Kathryn Brehm and they married on June 30, 2023 in Oshkosh.
Randy was an avid outdoorsman; he loved hunting, fishing, sitting around a campfire, and spending time at the cabin in Pickerel with Kathy and various family and friends. Throughout his life, he especially enjoyed fishing trips to Canada, fishing with his son Chad, deer camp with his son Alex, and an annual grouse hunting weekend with longtime friends: Doug, Chris, and Larry. They would later be joined by his nephew Danny and son Alex for several years. After retirement, he enjoyed watching game shows, his favorites being The Price Is Right and Jeopardy. Anyone who knew Randy knew you did not call when these two shows were on or during supper! In addition to game shows, he also enjoyed watching various sports, including college basketball, college football, hockey, and NFL games. He loved the Wisconsin Badgers, the Minnesota Wild, and was an avid Payton Manning and Indianapolis Colts fan.
He is survived by his wife Kathryn, sons Chadrick and Alex (Stacey), daughter Erin (Jared) Pixley, his grandchildren: Tristan (Feather Cornelius), Ethan, Arthur, and another grandchild on the way; expected April 2024. He is also survived by one great-grandson Anakin, his siblings Bambi Schoonover, William (Debra) Schoonover, and Sheri (Scott) Curran, step-children Jacob, Isaac, Katelyn, Elijah, Emily and their spouses and children. He is further survived by his former wife and the mother of his children Kristine (Dean Coenen) Schoonover, in-laws Tom & Karen Johnson and Ed & Marilyn Brehm, as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews and many friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and several aunts and uncles.

The family would like to thank Dr. Poola, Molly Schumacher, and the nurses and staff at the Theda Cancer Center in Appleton; ThedaCare Hospice; Dr. Wooldridge, Laurie, Dr. Kilari, and the nurses and staff at Froedtert; and Dr. Ammar Alzoubi at Aurora Medical Center. While the cancer ultimately won, Randy fought a courageous battle and he couldn’t have done that without his dedicated medical team.
“A heart of gold stopped beating, working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us he only takes the best. Leaves and flowers may wither, the golden sun may set but the hearts that loved you dearly are the ones that won’t forget.”
