Richard August Matschnig

June 21, 1930 — July 30, 2008

Richard August Matschnig, 78, went to his eternal home—July 30, after a courageous bout with cancer. He was born June 21, 1930 in Milwaukee Wisconsin, the son of Ignatz and Thekla (Baumann) Matschnig.He lived his childhood in Milwaukee, and was a graduate of Boys Technical High School there after which he served in the Merchant Marines on the Great Lakes.In 1952 he met the love of his life, Lois (Sass) and they were married in Plymouth, Wisconsin, September 20, at Salem Evangelical and Reformed Church. Two months later he was drafted into the army and served at Ft. Riley Kansas. After discharge, he attended the Stout Institute in Menomonie,Wisconsin from which he graduated with a Masters Degree in Science.After graduation, he taught in Fond du Lac for 5 years, and then , moving to Oshkosh, he taught Industrial Arts for 26 years, ending his teaching career as Department Head.He loved his wife and family dearly. He enjoyed teaching. He loved the out doors becoming an avid deer hunter at a friends farm at which time he also served as cook for the hunters. He spent many enjoyable hours at the cabin of dear friends, and enjoyed many fishing trips to Canada as well. He always made time for friends , often visiting shutins or those in the hospital. He had great delight in spending time with his children and 4 grandchildren. There was always a good reason to visit them. .He dearly loved his father and mother inlaw (now deceased), who were like parents to him.He and his wife spent a memorable 6 week trip to Canada and Alaska as well as numerous trips to Branson., Missouri and visiting family in Indiana. He loved doing puzzles in winter, reading and watching nature and programs on T.V.In 1964 he and his brother Frank built the first new family home and in 2003 he built the present family home with the assistance of friends and family. He is survived by Lois, his wife of 55 years, his daughter Laurie and husband Leroy Raddatz, their two sons Adam, James, (wife Kelly) and their son Samuel Christian.He is also survived by his son Frank and wife Meg (Mandeik) Matschnig and their two children , Sydney Paige and Jacob William.Richard leaves behind a brother Edward, (Connie) brother Howard (Freida)A sister Joyce (Robert Kelly), and a sister Rosemarie Matschnig. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Katherine (Frank) Matschnig, and his brother-in-law, Albert Devincent (husband of Pricilla), as well as many dear nieces, nephews, and some very cherished friends. We as a family wish to thank Dr.s Gremminger, Khatib, and the Mercy Medical staff for their wonderful care, and to thank Countryside Christian Church, and family friends for their prayers and many acts of Christian love. At his request, there will be no funeral service, but on August 2, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m, there will be a visitation with the family time at Konrad Behlman Funeral Home Westside (100 Lake Pt Drive. )Any memorial which might be received would go to Countryside Christian Church.
