Richard H. “Dick” LaPoint, 87, Oshkosh, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 5, 2017. He was born November 17, 1929, in Oshkosh, the son of Russell and Ella (Abel) LaPoint. Dick was a U.S. Army veteran having served in the Korean War. In December of 1975 Dick married Loretta Nickel (Kellogg). He was employed with Muza Sheetmetal for many years until his retirement.
Richard enjoyed perch fishing and spending time with his family. He and Lori enjoyed their winters in Texas after their retirement, and Dick gave much of his time and talents for those less fortunate. He was a member of Plymouth Church, Oshkosh.
Dick is survived by his loving wife, Lori; children: Patti (David) Larson, Delhi, IA; Richard P. (Karen) LaPoint, Springfield, MO; Rhonda LaPoint, Wauconda, IL; and Renee (Ted) Phillips, Metamora, IL; a step-daughter, Debbie (Ken) Erstad, Fond du Lac; 15 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; five brothers: Robert (Diane), Ronald (Carol), Ralph (Margie), Roger (Allegra), and Raymond (Julie); nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a step-son, Rex Kellogg; and a great granddaughter, Madison Larson.
Funeral services will be held at 5:00 p.m. Sunday, April 9, 2017, at Plymouth Church, 1325 Georgia Street, Oshkosh, with Rev. Rick Hopkins officiating. Interment will be in Lake View Memorial Park, Oshkosh. Visitation will be at the church from 3:00 p.m. Sunday until the time of the service. Full military honors will be presented at the cemetery. A memorial has been established for Plymouth Church.
Dick’s children were honored to carry out his wish to stay home the last few weeks of his life.
