Richard G. Marks, age 68, died at his home with his family at his side after a two and one-half year battle with cancer. He was born August 26, 1940, in Berlin, Wisconsin, the son of Irene and Clarence Marks. On August 13, 1966, he married Marcia Redemann. He is survived by his wife, his cherished daughters, Connie S. Armstrong (fianc Edwin Hoefler) and Carrie A. Marks (fianc Matthew R. Nigl) and four adored grandchildren, Justin S. Stenerson (fianc Jessie Black), Ashlee S. Stenerson, Kaitlyn Jo Armstrong and Samantha Jo Armstrong.Dick, despite having one hand, excelled in all sports at Berlin High School. From his high school year book Every inch an athlete and hes measured in millimeters. It was in football that his coach coined him with the nickname Lefty, which stuck with him all his life. He not only participated but excelled in football, basketball, baseball and track. He was also an excellent swimmer and worked as a lifeguard in high school. In 1966 he received a bronze medal and a monetary reward from the Carnegie Foundation for his actions in April of 1965 when he jumped in the icy waters of the Fox River to save the life of a child, which almost cost him his own life. Dick was a forty year plus employee of Oshkosh Corp. He played slow pitch softball in Oshkosh, playing with Oshkosh Truck, Reds Pizza, Jackies Old-Timers, Sunday Morning Social League, and Wednesday 35 and Over League. He also coached the girls Library Team, and several of his daughters and his granddaughters baseball teams. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, and golfing. He loved to shop and Christmas was always a time of an abundance of decorations, gifts, and celebration. It also usually required a visit from the electrician to rearrange a few things on the outside of the house. Dick overcame many hardships in his life beginning at the age of seven. His strong will and determination touched many lives. He leaves a legacy of good work ethics, sports ethics, family ethics, and life ethics. The most important things in his life were his family and friends. He will be truly missed by many. Dick is also survived by a mother-in-law, Eileen Redemann, a sister-in-law, Carla (Joseph) Henry, a sister-in-law Debra (Ronald) Waters, a sister-in-law, Barbara (Terry) Hock, a brother-in-law, Paul (Kristy) Redemann, a brother, Donald (Kelly) Schneider, a sister, Judy Doan, and a sister, Kim (Kevin) Dudek, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.A memorial service will be held on Saturday June 27, 2009 at St. Pauls United Church of Christ (1250 Leonard Point Road) at Noon with Rev. Brian Tokoph officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9:00 AM until the time of serviceThe family would like to thank everyone for their love, prayers, and support.
