Richard Howard Dick Grose, 85, of Sycamore, IL formerly of Oshkosh died Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at Kishwaukee Community Hospital in DeKalb. He was born April 14, 1927 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin the son of Lester G. and Jean (Brazelton) Grose. He married Arlene Redmond on March 17, 1950 in Oshkosh. Dick retired from DeKalb Ag after 21 years as a corporate pilot. He worked as a pilot and mechanic for Basler Flight Service in Oshkosh for 10 years. Before becoming a pilot Dick worked as a mason for his father. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict. After his retirement he loved to give his nieces airplane rides in a little 2 seater Cub airplane. Dick enjoyed hunting and fishing in Wisconsin, spending time with his family and friends. He was famous for baking bread. One neighbor boy commented that Dick was the boss of the neighborhood. He often helped neighbors with mason work that needed to be done. He enjoyed hanging out at Punks every morning, where he did errands for Bruce and would drive a little truck to pick up parts. He was a lovable curmudgeon. He is survived by his wife, Arlene Grose of Sycamore; daughter, Debbie (Chuck) Reuter of Greenville, Wisconsin; grandson, Shawn (Dori) Engel of Fremont, Wisconsin; sister, Margie (Bill) Siewert of Oshkosh; brother, Dr. Jim (Carol) Grose of Oconto, Wisconsin; sister-in-law, Mavis Redmond of Omaha, Nebraska; nieces and nephews, Lynn (Chuck) Gibbons, Karen Redmond, Bob (Jeri) Zelke, Jr., Ann Knaus, Kim (Patrick) Wallace, Paula (Tom) Smith, and Terry (Holly) Grose.He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Robert Grose; sister, Janet Zelke; brother-in-law, Bob Zelke, Sr.The Grose family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses at Kishwaukee Community Hospital ICU and his many friends and neighbors who graciously came to visit so often. Funeral services for Richard will be held on Thursday October 25, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Homes-Westside. Visitation will be held on Thursday at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at Lake View Memorial Park where military honors will be performed.
