Richard L. Christensen, age 93, passed away surrounded by family on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at Eden Meadows in Oshkosh. He was born on January 3, 1929, in Detroit, MI, to the late Harvey and Evelyn (Frank) Christensen.
He attended Fordson High School where he was active in swimming and cross country. He then served in the Army from 1951 to 1953. Upon coming home he completed his degree in Packaging Engineering from Michigan State University. During that time he married his high school sweetheart who he met at a DeMolay dance. They settled in Illinois and raised their 3 children. They then retired to Oshkosh, WI to be with family.
He enjoyed, fly fishing, hunting, dog training, wood carving and was an avid leader in Boy Scouts. He was a lifelong Mason. He was active at the Oshkosh Senior Center, where he taught bird carving and volunteered in the woodshop.
Richard is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jean (Gourd) Christensen; son, Jon (Cindy) Christensen; daughters: Susan (Bill) Roush, Carol (Randy) Christensen; grandchildren: Thoren McDole, Katie McDole, Cheyanne Tedder, Kyle Sprouse, Nicholas Sprouse, Lisa Frisch, Stacy Gutsmiedl; and great grandchildren: Caylin, Devin, Richard, Brantley, Skylar, Josie, Jacob, Camden, Olivia, and Corbin. He was further preceded in death by his brothers, Robert and George.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you for the care and compassion that was given to Richard by Mary from Aurora at Home Hospice and the staff at Eden Meadows Green House.
Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Eagle Harbor, MI.
