Richard W Schmit

Richard “Dick” W. Schmit, age 92 of Oshkosh, passed away at Evergreen Retirement Community on Friday, April 1, 2022. He was born on December 27, 1929, to the late Herman and Mildred (Murphy) Schmit and grew up in Marinette. Dick married Catherine “Susie” LaCoursiere on September 10, 1955, at St. Anne Church, Menominee, MI. They lived in South Milwaukee for 39 years until they moved to Oshkosh to be closer to their children.

Dick served as a surgical technician in the United States Navy during the Korean War, and later graduated from the University of Wisconsin- Madison. He worked as a senior partner at Universal Scheduling Company.

He was a past member of St. Josephat Catholic Church, he volunteered at Father Carr’s Place 2B for 22 years and was an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus. He is remembered as a kind-hearted and thoughtful man by all who crossed his path. Dick enjoyed being at the cabin, gardening, doing wood working projects and spending time with his wife and family. Dick had a passion for swimming, cross country skiing, and fly fishing in Pembine.

Dick is lovingly survived by his wife of 67 years, Susie Schmit; children: Mary, Lynn, and Tom (Brenda) Schmit; grandchildren: Seamus (Sara), Keegan, and Colin Murphy, Matthew (Haylie), Joseph, and Monica Schmit, Daniel Jarnagin, and Clare Denz (Alex); great grandchildren: Mary Jean Murphy, Miles Schmit and Aiden McGlinn; brother: David (Betty) Schmit.

In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his infant brother, Kenneth Schmit, and sisters, Teresa (Jim) Jacquart and Addie Mae (Tony) Dick.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 9, 2022, at St. Jude the Apostle Parish - Sacred Heart site, 519 Knapp St. with Fr. Louis Golamari officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of the Mass.
