Richard obtained his Masters Degree in music at UW-Milwaukee and worked for over 30 years in the Oshkosh Public Schools as a band/music instructor until his retirement in 1988. He played in several area bands including the Dodo Ratchman Band and the John Check & the Wisconsin Dutchmen Band. He also played music for the Miss Wisconsin Pageant for many years. He was a member of Most Blessed Sacrament Parish, was a veteran of the US Army and was a member of the Oshkosh Elks Club.Richard is survived by his wife, Alice of Oshkosh; children, Ann (Richard) Schuhart of Marinette, Barbara (Craig) Diener-Blumer of Oshkosh, Christopher (Janet) Holzer of Oshkosh, Dorothy (Michael) Kuenzi of Oshkosh, Diane Reinders of Oshkosh, Richard Jr. (Yvonne) Holzer of Mishicot, and Jeanne Lambert of Lakewood Ranch, FL; a sister, Mary Mathes of Wasilla, AK; a brother, Jim (Michelle) Holzer of Shawano, WI; 21 grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 9 step-great-grandchildren; and numerous in-laws, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a son, John; a grandson, Donald Neubauer; and a son-in-law, Walter H. Diener.A memorial service for Richard will be held Monday, October 3, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at Most Blessed Sacrament Parish-St.Peter Church, Father Bill Hower officiating. Visitation will be held at the church Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the service. Inurnment will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established.Richards family would like to thank the staff at Park View Health Center and Aurora Medical Center, especially to the ER, for all the care and help received.
